A Setlist Parody of "The Trees"
« on: April 15, 2008, 21:40:57 PM »
Shamelessly stolen from a post on alt.music.rush   ;) Well done norborder  ;D

"The Trees" (S&A, 2008 leg edition)

There is unrest in the fandom
Most don't want to hear "The Trees"
For the fans just want more rare songs
But the band ignores their pleas

The trouble with the setlist
And its changes oh so slight
Some say the band has gotten lazy
And plays the same show every night
But the boys can't help their feelings
If they like the easy pay
And they wonder why their fan base
Can't just smile and say "OK"

There is trouble in the fandom
And the ticket sales are dead
As the fans plead 'Jacob's Ladder!'
And the boys just shake their heads

So the fanbois hit the websites
And bitch fiercely day and night
"The songs are getting moldy
There's no end to it in sight"
But the setlist shall be static
In a Rush world that's the law
And at least Al will be well fed

By pasta, bread, and slaw.

Here is another take, this time limelight!:

Watching Rush on a lighted stage

Is a bit like eating veal

An unfulfilling meal

They've lost touch with reality

And leave me in a rage

Touring has taken its toll

Neil Peart is getting fat

And what the f*cks that hat?

We must put up barriers

To protect us from this tat

Living in the UK

I hope before I die

I get to hear the Camera Eye

I just don't understand

The fanboi praise and fascination

The same old songs and animation

Drum masturbation

And lyrics that don't rhyme

Living in a snow bound shack

Away from the public eye

It makes me want to cry

I cant pretend I like his books

So don't get on your bike!

All the worlds indeed a stage

So why not go and play there

There's more than just America

You have another audience

Outside the monkey cage

Chorus

The new songs are an abomination

Madrigal

When the concerts grow to shitey
To play some songs anew
i grow weary of the evening
Three hours sat in my pew
When all around is sadness
And there's no new song in view
I long to turn my car homeward
To stop and have a brew

When the show becomes as barren
And as cold as old pork pies
There's a light show in the darkness
In a blood shot pair of eyes
In pain to hear Tom Sawyer
And in vain to search for jokes
But these things will they be given
Not a cat in hells chance.... folks....

Nothing For Something

Waiting for another tour
The same as the one before
Waiting for a new set list
That''ll  keep you wanting more

Countless ways
Of wasting days

Waiting for the boys to play
To turn your head around
Looking for a nice new song
They think they may have found

Looking for
The bar door

You will get nothing for something
You won't get entry for free
You should get wise
And don't listen to all the lies
Go get yourself a cup of tea...

What you buy is your own T shirt
What you love is your own curry
What you drink is your own lager
What you waste is your own money

Use your head  there's an answer
Let it guide you along
Don't let Ash be the banker
And dig out some decent songs...

Great stuff.  Chortle chortle.
Standing in the shadows, hiding from the light
Reach out in the darkness, and hold on for your life
All the fear of the future, all the emptiness inside
When the moment of truth arrives, hey, you can run but you can't hide

And another: Tom Sawyer

A Modern day set list

Is really light

Of classic songs

And full of sh!te

Though they’ve written loads of songs

And sold a bucket load of thongs

They play the same old boring stuff

And the drum solos really guff

The Tosser

What you say about their choice of songs

Will get you slated by the fanboi dongs

Dare you speak, of songs being weak,

Expect a mail, from a TNMS geek

The tour is, the tour is,

Long and dull and dire

Maybe they should just retire

Today’s set list

Will wash over you

And the tunes that they choose

Are a pile of poo

No they’ll never change the list

Now matter how the fans get pissed

Because their arses still get kissed

They know The Tress will not be missed

But Change is

The tour is, the tour is,

Long and dull and dire

Maybe they should just retire

Exit the arena

Running for cover

They get on a plane

And the money they make

Will get spent on wine and bikes and a toupee

Here is a ditty I did, way back in October 2002 when there was no Euro-tour in sight, and I had just been to see the boys in Toronto and Chicago.

A Modest Man from Europe, a parody (sorry Neil)

A modest man from Europe
Travelled North to see Rush
He had a need to discover
A use for his hard-earned air-miles

Because he was obsessed
Because he had grand dreams
Because he flew over
They called him insane

Delusions of grandeur
Visions of concerts
A manic obsessive
He sings in the rain

Eyes wide open
Heart undefended
Innocence untarnished

Rush-a-holic Man
Doing what you can
They can
Standing in the shadows, hiding from the light
Reach out in the darkness, and hold on for your life
All the fear of the future, all the emptiness inside
When the moment of truth arrives, hey, you can run but you can't hide
