Just wondering. While out walking Maple in the countryside yesterday, I came across a pound coin and a £2 coin side by side. There's no better feeling that finding a bit of money I think. Back in the winter of 1981, I found a £10 note amongst the snow, which was quite a find as I was only earning £23-50 a week at the time. A few years ago, a fitter I know at work came across a cigarette packet with 2 grand in it. He handed it in to the police, but when no one claimed it after a certain time, they gave it back to him. Probably never claimed as it was ill gotten gains.

One day in September or October 1977, I was walking home from school - I was in the lower sixth form at the time, aged 17 - and I glanced down and noticed a £5 note lying on the path. This was only a few yards from the school gate, in the park adjacent to it.

I was with a group of friends but was the only one to notice it, so I was quite lucky. My parents had me take it to the nearest police station to where I found it. Two weeks later I went back there, it hadn't been claimed and the desk sergeant handed it back to me in a brown envelope.

I went out and bought Kiss Alive! with it.

That reminds me - in the very late 70's or very early 80's, I found a £1 note in the old HMV that used to be on Northumberland Street in Newcastle town centre.  I gave it to my Brother and he bought a Rush photograph (taken by Fin Costello, I think) that was on sale in said HMV.

Brought almost as much joy as finding a discarded plastic bag full of porn mags - something that today's kids will never get the opportunity to experience, alas.

;D ;D That really was like winning the lottery for a child of the seventies. Alas, the internet has killed that thrill for today's kids.

I may have found the odd pound or two. But the one that sticks with me most was when my son was 7. It was when we lived in Cyprus and we'd all just come out of a remote restaurant and fluttering on the ground was a Cyprus pound note. He gleefully picked it up, then another and another  - probably 7 pounds in all. He was so chuffed - must have seemed a fortune to him.
