Alien : 40th Anniversary re-issue
« on: February 22, 2019, 13:31:04 PM »
Oh my. 8pm March 2nd at my local Cineworld. Would be rude not to go methinks.

I remember seeing the original in 79 and the 20th anniversary in 99, so I guess I should bag the 40th too.
Standing in the shadows, hiding from the light
Reach out in the darkness, and hold on for your life
All the fear of the future, all the emptiness inside
When the moment of truth arrives, hey, you can run but you can't hide

What’s the difference in the 40th version?
Everybody's got to evalate from the norm.

It is 40 years older! I expect no difference. There wasn't with the 30th anniversary Die Hard.

There was a Director's Cut version (of course) but for some reason I'd thought there was a reissue in which all the powerfully dated-looking ZX Spectrum-ish computer screen scenes were replaced by more modern visuals. But I can't find any evidence of that. Must have dreamed it.

Here's a clip with some of the Nostromo computer scenes:

I've just read an interesting piece where Ridley Scott says that to him, the 1979 version is the 'Director's Cut' rather than the 2003 "Director's Cut".

Have a gander if you wish . . .

I'm with Scott on this. The 1979 original is still one of my top 10 films.

Hmm . . . .that does ring a bell. I seem to remember the film being restored for the 20th Anniversary re-issue (painstakingly frame by frame as I seem to recall), and I also seem to remember some kind of upgrade on the bridge. But maybe that was just hearsay at the time, I can't seem to find any reference now, but maybe I just can't find the right search term.

Ho hum.

Tiddly tum.

Thank you very much for the heads up Reg!
I've just booked tickets for Alien and Aliens at the BFI for Sunday week 😎

Fantastic! One day perhaps I'll be able to get my eyeballs upgraded to 4K, as well.
