« on: October 05, 2018, 20:09:06 PM »
Doing what it says on the tin - except even the super-deluxe doesn't come in a tin, it's the latest Rush Anniversary cash in!!!!

So, that'll be the Super Deluxe with water bottle (FFS Why?) for me then :)

Just in case you missed it there is another tribute album on its way, steel drums as well with Portnoy. I can hear mystic rhythms now. How much have we looked forward to this? http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/mike-portnoy-to-play-on-pan-rocks-rush-tribute-project/
Everybody's got to evalate from the norm.

Don't see a lot to tempt me with this one  :-\

Bizarre that it includes 2112 from the Tucson gig but nothing else, especially as the whole Hemispheres album features on that recording....

I'd be interested in the Bluray for the 5.1 version, but that's only available in the super, super, super deluxe version. Pass for me.

I'll bet all the fanbois will be wetting themselves to get this ,really lazy release ,nothing new bar the 5.1  ::) .If memory serves there was a couple of soundboards from this tour Detriot,Tucson and Offenbach at the very least would be better than the pink pop release which though good is way short .. No real surprise OLE are punting  this ,they have to make they're cash back somehow and just coming out in time for the christmas market not cynical at all.

Think I'll just get the  3 disc vinyl version.

For anyone considering the mega-box (currently £144 on Amazon UK), it's available from Amazon USA HERE for roughly £86 including import duty and using the 10% off coupon detailed on the item's page.

I have the 2CD version now, and there is (what I consider to be) a horrible glitch in the transition between I. Prelude and II. Apollo (Bringer of Wisdom), about 4:20 into the main Hemispheres track.

This YouTube video illustrates the problem:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fN0Du99auQc

You might think that they've chopped a second or so off the fade out, but I analysed this carefully in Audacity by comparison to the '90s remaster, and in fact they haven't. The problem is that the last chord of Prelude doesn't fade soon enough.
On the remaster, the duration of the fade out from that last climactic chord at 4:20 is about 5.18 seconds.

On the anniversary version, that chord is sustained quite a bit longer in the fade out - for 6.58 seconds - after which it stops abruptly.

The timing from that last chord to the next section is near identical - there's no more than 0.01 seconds in it. So there's actually more of a silent gap in the '90s remaster version.

Remaster:

Anniversary:

To my ears the Anniversary edition does sound slightly subjectively 'better' than the remaster, so it's a shame.
