Surprised
« on: September 09, 2018, 20:03:17 PM »
I’m not sure how many weeks, months or years it has been since the final gig but I am surprised that Ged and Alex have done nothing of musical substance since. Alex has done a few noodles on other artists albums but that’s it. I presumed they would get something going together post NP (retired and out). Seems a little odd.

Peart was holding them back.

After performing with Yes at their RRHoF induction, Geddy poached Rik Wakeman for keyboard duties; the latter was however contracted to tour with ARW, and then a solo piano tour, but once all that's over with... ;)

Sadly, I have to agree with Nïckslïkk2112.
The horse ran its course a long while back.
I still will miss the thrill of a new album (and its associated surprises) and of course the tours.
But they were well passed their best, at least for my tastes, with the occasional reprieve and even a melody that I could hum along to.

I am neither surprised or disappointed.

There is nothing sadder than a punch drunk boxer having one last tilt at glory, and this is what more music would be. The well had truly run dry by the time of Clockwork Angels, and IMHO a long time before that. Just because something wasn't as crap as what preceded it doesn't suddenly make it good.

I have had a bit of a Rush renaissance in my listening recently, giving CoS a real blast, then my only personal sweet spot which is PW to HYF. What that era has is tune after tune after melody after melody. Tunes with space, clarity, quality, surprises,  meaningful lyrics rather than purple prose waffling, a maximum of 10 songs on an album, progression (in terms of how each album sounds compared to the last) and just general all round pant wettingly good music!

Think its time we started debating Rush's recent output again (and how overrated Hemispheres is)

I can understand Rush have ceased to be but my confusion is to why two of the allegedly Greatest rock musicians have not pursued anything further.

Just imagined they would put out some music with some other rock types and 5 songs out of ten would be half decent.

I guess you could ask a similar question to Jimmy Page ........ not exactly set the world alight since 1980 when we was guitarist in the arguable the greatest rock band of all time.

Hemispheres is overrated though.

It’s an astonishing achievement given how relatively young they were at the time.  But it’s not as good as anything in the 80s halcyon days. :)
