Going to Toronto
« on: June 28, 2018, 19:51:48 PM »
Hello Rush peeps!

First post in quite a long while. Nice to see we're still here in these days of Facebook etc

Anyway I'm off to YYZ for my holidays - actually the first stop on the way to see my sister in Calgary. Hugely excited to find the condo my wife had booked was on the edge of Willowdale, not knowing the history of Willowdale's favourite sons. A visit to Lee Lifeson Park is definitely in order - the local park which was renamed in their honour only recently.

As well as the Orbit Room, the Massey Hall, the Municipal buildings on the cover of Moving Pictures etc, just wondering if anyone who's been before has got advice on other places I should visit?

Cheers!

Catch a baseball game at the Sky Dome? I went to watch the Bluejays play (this was back in 2002 for the Vapor Trails tour) - I still have no idea how the game works, but it was fun anyway!

And the CN Tower is worth going up for the views.

Those are 2 things that spring to mind.

I seem to remember that the Eaton shopping centre (mall?) was rather nice.
Standing in the shadows, hiding from the light
Reach out in the darkness, and hold on for your life
All the fear of the future, all the emptiness inside
When the moment of truth arrives, hey, you can run but you can't hide

Visit Port Dalhousie - can easily be combined with a trip to Niagara Falls from Toronto, it's where you'll find Lakeside Park.
Younge Street in Toronto is pretty cool too but not quite as good since Sam the Mans record store has gone......part of the Subdivisions video was filmed there.
Don't forget the selfie at Danforth/Pape interchange too 8)

Walking on the glass floor up the CN Tower is one to tick off, I'd say.  Took me a few minutes to do it myself with any confidence, mind, irrational if understandable as that may be..! :)

I'd love to make a pilgrimage there myself one day, and one place I'd want to see - yet which seems to be overlooked by Rush fans - is the place where the early albums were recorded.

So why not take a taxi to the Cradle of Caress Of Steel?

Well I'm there! Lakeside Park is lovely. And it's in a suburb called Oakville.

Had an unexpected taxi ride through the subdivisions of Willowdale. Looked just like the aerial shots in the video.

Full report on my return!

Bizarre to see this thread, as I made a pilgrimage to Lakeside Park on Thursday evening on the way back from Niagara Falls (I'm over here visiting relatives).

The merry go round still wheezes the same old melody and my kids got to ride on it for 5 cents each.
A surreal and somewhat emotional experience!

Of course Caress of Steel was stuck on the iPod in the car immediately afterwards.

And with strange serendipity Donna Halper posted this the very same day...

Hate to ruin your trip but I think that's a different Lakeside Park!  (Same lake though)

Ah I wondered why I couldn't find any Midway rides.

Still had some nice willows in the breeze though. ☺

This is the Lakeside Park you want (in Port Dalhousie).
