75-79" Screens
« on: December 23, 2015, 23:35:56 PM »
Right then, you 'orrible lot.

Looking for a 75 - 79" screen.  Used almost exclusively for films/box sets with occasional TV on a Friday when Graham Norton is on.  ::)

The Sony's look beautiful.  Budget, like my underpants, is fairly large.

Any suggestions/recommendations?

PFFFT typical chav. Jumbotron above he fireplace, sit 3 feet away so your eyes and neck are permanently damaged. Settings stay on shop display so Tim Peake can see it from space.
I envy your situation sir, I had to twist the wife's arm to get a 40" in th new kitchen.

I should mention that the room is 20ft X 20ft pretty much and that I wasn't to get 5.1 installed in tandem, so any recommendation there also welcome...

No need to justify. I'm just jealous. I've just got my modest music room set up yesterday. I will hibernate and he found dead in years to come, covered in cobwebs with the needle stuck in the run out grooves.

Jan through to April is a good time to buy as new ranges start getting launched normally from March time following CES in Jan ( a massive Electronics Trade Fair ) in Vegas. So shops are trying to clear their 2015 ranges and there should be bargains to be had.
Or you could wait for the new models of course for better tech........

Frustrating this is, proper, well stocked independent shops are few and far between up here.

Drop Ron a PM, he's in Canada on the lash, but I'm sure he'll have recommendations....a trip to your local John Lewis is always a good place to start...

My company work pretty much exclusively with Samsung tellys and they are the dog's bollocks

LG 2016 OLED range announced at CES is pretty much the state the art in TV's. I will be watching for the reviews when they hit the market in a couple of months but initial impressions are very favourable although a couple of the design choices have me scratching my head. I saw the 65EF9500 which was 2015's top LG OLED just a few days ago and it was frankly awesome. The key thing for any new large TV is to check it has the UHD alliance certification so that you can be sure it will cope with the evolving UHD media formats.

Thanks chaps.  Went for the Sony KD75X9405CBU.

Gorgeous aesthetics (important for me) and picked up excellent reviews all around.

Good set that and firmware updates for it available to keep it inline with the forthcoming HDR formats which is important for future proofing.
