It looks like they will have the option to go completely wireless soon but there's no date when the upgrade will happen. This blog post by Sonos was put out in April but it's still not available.

The bridge is only the size of a small router so i'm not sure its worth delaying your gratification any longer, just buy it.
Everybody's got to evalate from the norm.

Well pleased with my first foray, two Play 1's paired in stereo, marvelous.

As Nick said, Sonos stuff can get very addictive and as Pete said, I'm listening to more music than I have for years.

All good  :)
You know how that rabbit feels........

fair point, however I imagine come the time I will  have the choice between a completely wirless option, or to be able to pick up a bridge and older model at a much reduced price

Worth waiting a bit longer

Lady in our local tech shop said yesterday the SOnos rep had been in, and the product now did not need the bridge any longer.

Can anyone confirm/deny this fact?

I haven't used mine without a bridge but there was a recent firmware update which made bridge-less connectivity available. You should no longer need one.

A warning - they have updated the controller app for iOS (don't know about android) which I don't like at all. If you are using an iPad the old controller app was easier and required less interaction to setup rooms and the music that is played. It's not terrible but I preferred the old one. Also you need to have iOS 6 or higher for the app to work. I don't know what android versions are supported.

I found Sonos  release notes on this. Confirms that bridge is not required and has details of device compatibility.

Have to say I am very please with everything.
I think it took longer to get the stuff out of the boxes than it did to set it up to play.
Organizing the connect box with the hi-fi was a bit more tricky but it all works beautifully and I can now blast Gojira round the house at high volume :)

This was what I was told too at Richer Sounds on Saturday. I got a Bridge anyway as you need something connected to the router (and I didnt want a speaker there).
I asked nicely and they did me a deal for a free Bridge and a bit more off.  Very helpful guys.

You no longer need a hard-wire connection to a router. They will now work with standard wi-fi.

The Soundbar gets a great write up in the copy of Which? which arrived today. Expensive but very good.

Thanks for that, just don't think i watch enough tv to justify it, and unless it was music or an blockbuster action movie it's probably overkill for me, still want one though!
