You've obviously never met the missus  :-X

Tell me about it.  My co-habitee doesn't like guitars distorted beyond overdrive, doesn't like synths, doesn't like 80s music, thinks flashy guitar playing is "pointless" (especially Yngwie), finds David Lee Roth more entertaining than Edward Van Halen, doesn't like football, won't allow me to grow a mullet, etc etc ad infinitum.  I don't know how she puts up with me I put up with it.  :-\

When the sun is past the yard arm is traditional (drinking not wives).
Not that I am sure what that means.

It means when the sun is higher in the sky than the yardarm. Simples :)

It's an old Navy thing. A yardarm is one of the horizontal bits on the mast that they hang sails from.
My dad did his national service in the Navy - on a concrete aircraft carrier - he always used to say that the sun was over the yardarm when he had his first whisky of the day after breakfast.
