Incendies

Still working my way through Denis Villeneuve’s filmography (thanks, Reg :) )  and I’d urge anyone and everyone to clear two hours or so in their schedule to immerse themselves in this one.

What a stunning film.  I’ve rarely if ever seen a film so powerful, harrowing and affecting that’s suffused with such poetry and humanism.  Horrible yet somehow beautiful.  Heartbreaking but with a prevailing hope.

The sort of film that sticks in the mind long after seeing it.

I have Enemy yet to see, but in the light of seeing Incendies I feel I need to revisit the others I have seen.

It’s got right under my skin.

After Life

Ricky Gervais comedy that is a Netflix original. Lots if the outside scenes are filmed in my home town if Hemel Hemostead, but it's worth watching regardless.... ;D

Caught the first 3 last night. Very enjoyable. Humour but addresses serious issues too.

Das Boot

Sequel to the excellent Germna original from the early 80s. Not the same impact or claustrophobic feel, but watchable enough. Running at around. 7/10 so far....

Watched the first Jack Reacher film. I liked it. Tom Cruise is really good in this - he doesn't just do the super cool tough guy movie star persona, he acts properly.

Seems to be inspired quite a bit by 24 - although it's based on a novel from 2005. But Reacher is in exactly the same mould as Bauer; driven, determined and invincible in unarmed combat. I liked the first 80 minutes or so a lot - clever film. But the last half hour is pretty much exactly the same as the climax of every other 24 episode. Fun but very predictable.

Very good performances from Rosamund Pike and David Oyelowo, who put in impeccable American accents. Nice to see Robert Duvall, as well.

Having finished all 12 seasons of "Bones" on Amazon Prime, I then spotted 7 seasons of "Burn Notice" which I thought would do nicely for my next box set watch through. I've enjoyed the odd episode I've seen in the past.
Standing in the shadows, hiding from the light
Reach out in the darkness, and hold on for your life
All the fear of the future, all the emptiness inside
When the moment of truth arrives, hey, you can run but you can't hide

I imagine it could be someone else's problem rather than 'your's'
