Just bought a Nikon Coolpix A

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nikon-COOLPIX-Compact-Digital-Camera/dp/B00BPMIJOG

Amazon has them currently for £275.63 as long as you don't want the black one (£581.63) and yesterday I read a review describing them as value for money at their old price of £999.

It doesn't have a viewfinder which is a bummer but I'd wanted a good prime lens compact for a while and it seemed to good to pass up.  Arriving tomorrow.

Looking forward to the Coolpix review

Only taken about 10 shots so far, but initial impressions are: It handles nicely, feels solid and well made (you'd expect that from a camera that cost £999 when it was released) and captures very sharp images - seems to be a superb lens.

How do you find the manual focus using rear screen? Also some of the comments seemed critical of the auto focus. Anything in that? Otherwise looks like a great point and shoot camera with creative options at a goof price.

I haven't tried manual focus. I've had enough of that for one lifetime with my Pentax ME Super (although I do still use an old MF lens on my Pentax SLR). The auto-focus seems quick and accurate, at least in decent light.

Just bought another camera, an  Olympus OMD EM10II with Leica 15mm f1.7 DG Summilux lens. Both second hand, though the lens is mint.

I like prime lens photography. Always got on really well with my old Pentax ME Super and a 28mm lens, and I'm hoping this will give me a similar experience. The EVF works really well.
