Simple pleasures - food and drink - fifth course
« on: December 04, 2010, 17:20:00 PM »
To kick off this, I'm going with the culinary delight I experienced in the food section in the new Van Hage garden centre in Peterborough this afternoon.

Blackcurrant Balsamic Vinegar.  Wow.

They had a sampler bowl out, with some bread for dipping.  So I tried a sample.  And another.  Sneakily walked around the tabe, then back for another sample.

I did of course, buy a small bottle to bring home, along with a lemongrass infused olive oil to mix with the blackcurrant either for dipping, or for a dressing.

The blackcurrant balsamic is amazing - you get this really intense sweet blackcurrant followed by the kick of the vinegar.  It really is amazing.  It might sound bizarre, but I'd like to try this drizzled over crepes.

All the fear of the future, all the emptiness inside

The king prawns in my main course of satay from the Chinese tonight were sublime.

Bought a gammon hock today from Morrisons.  Planning a pea+ham soup for tomorrow night.

And hopefully I'll get around to making a black banana cake too.

Did a cauliflower cheese (mature cheddar, Parmigiano-Reggiano, crumbled Stilton on top with Serrano ham, golden brown in oven after 25 mins - it was rather good.

Couldn't tell you the last time I had 'chippy' chips.  Must rectify that.

Ooh that sounds good.  I haven't had chips for weeks now.  One of my favourites (with chips) is ham, egg and chips (cold ham).

I got banned over there for saying that as a nice teatime treat I love licking gravy off Faggots.
