While searching in the Ubuntu software repositories for something work-related, a package called AssaultCube caught my eye, and I've played it a few times this last week. It's a violent first person shooter with a multiplayer mode, so you can knife, blow up and shoot random people on the Internet. And it's free! Certainly not state of the art - it works very nicely on my 4 year-old PC with integrated graphics - but very decent nonetheless, about the same standard as a PS2 game I guess. Very fast-paced and lots of fun.

Can anyone recommend any other free multiplayer games, not necessarily with a Linux version? A multiplayer combat flight sim would be nice, or a driving game.

Try this new open multiplayer beta... http://www.shatteredcrystal.com/index.php/world_of_tanks

Played some Lego Star Wars Original Trilogy on PS2 whilst on holiday. Terry's sister Yvette's kids were playing it and I joined in. A most amusing game. Pokes fun at the films brilliantly whilst still maintaining a weirdly authentic feel.

A quick shufti on play reveals this bargain. http://playcom.at/tnms?LID=21&DURL=http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation3/4-/3387233/Lego-Star-Wars-The-Complete-Saga/Product.html

Football Manager 2010 has been getting a lot of play recently....
If we're so much the same like I always hear,
Why such different fortunes and fates?
Some of us live in a cloud of fear,
Some live behind iron gates

Just had a birthday voucher spree and got:
Dragon Age: Origins
Far Cry 2
FIFA 10
Bioshock 1 & 2
The Orange Box

Mostly on Dragon Age atm, which I really like oddly as I'm not normally a swordy dragony kinda guy :P

Captain Ron

51 stars into SMG2 now. Got one the other night "The Hidden Star in the Sinking Stinking Bog". Fiendishly difficult. I'm actually getting concerned that this game might actually get too much for my 44yr old reactions. If it's pushing me at 51 what's it going to be like in the upper 90's and beyond to the finish?! I .. am ... intimidated.

You know what I've not played a game properly in ages, can't seem to find the time.

What with all this Oddworld stuff.

Captain Ron

85 stars now. Working on getting 100 purple coins in the trunk slide descent. Managed 93 earlier. I know it can be done now. :)

Up to the 60+ hours mark on Dragon Age, just started a new char :P

Captain Ron

93 stars. Currently on "Cosmic chase in the Chompworks". Utterly baffled currently. Had to walk away from it as air was turning blue from my gratuitous swearing. :P
