Yes, but I'm sorry to say that he started it all by being racist himself Pete.

There are more than a few words of truth spoken there also and he has brought it entirely and squarely on himself.

Shame really because he could have got the support of the entire nation behind him.

Jeezus, get a sense of perspective and hopefully a sense of humour as well  :( :( :(  He didn't make derogatary comments about English people, he didn't denigrate your country, he didn't threaten anyone with violence. He said he wasn't going to support the sporting representatives of another country. Big deal. As I said in another thread, the sporting rivalry between our countries is the oldest rivalry in international football. We should celebrate that rivalry and HAVE FUN with it for chrissake not use it as an excuse to bash each other.

Can you not tell the difference between sporting rivalry and racism ?  Not supporting England is NOT racist, personal abuse based on a person's nationality IS racist.

As a Chelsea fan you must be used to the "anyone but ..." mentality.

"Anyone but England" is NO DIFFERENT than "anyone but Chelsea"
"Anyone but England" is NO DIFFERENT than "anyone but Manchester United"
"Anyone but England" is NO DIFFERENT than "anyone but Celtic"

This site has seen comments of the "anyone but Portugal", "anyone but Germany" and "anyone but Argentina" comments. Are those racist ?

Very saddened by all this.  :( :( :(

No, he's not. That would be Angus Podgorny. The first Scotsman to ever win Wimbledon after Mr & Mrs Samuel Brainsample ate the giant blancmange from the Planet Skyron.

Finally some sanity is spouted forth on this topic . ;D

I'd like to think that I CAN tell the difference between sporting rivalry and racism Pete.

I don't think your comparisons stand up. Man Utd, Chelsea and Celtic are clubs formed up of players from all over the world so the' anyone but '.......does not have the same inference as anyone but England.

What Murray has said is that he would rather any country in the entire world win over England which is not the same as merely not supporting them - it intimates a thorough dislike for England in that he prefers any other country in the world - right?

He is flying the flag for Scottish anti English bitterness if you ask me and he has turned thousands of would be supporters against him.

He realised the error of his ways in his post match interview after the Roddick match, when he pathetically tried to back pedal by saying 'it's a shame England didn't go through as well' but it was all too late - we all know his true colours.

Couldn't agree more.  What a PR disaster.  I know that i won't ever be supporting him again, simple as that.   I can't believe people on here are defending him!

And why are the English branded as racists when we stand up for ourselves  :-?  Strange that.  Oh well.....

"You lot down there will NEVER understand why a lot of us feel this way...."

Please educate me then.  Plus i've never seen, nor heard anything on Dunblane - especially on this forum.

As for our footy team - you have a point there  ;)
