Probably my favourite live guitar player - utterly brilliant, a consummate guitar hero.

He played a cover of Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love', singing falsetto the last time I saw the Chilis in Manchester.  Flea played the bubbling riff, it was pretty special. :)

Started listening at lunchtime; sounds pretty interesting so far, very eclectic and varied. I was vaguely familiar with the Curtains material, but the rest is very different. Certainly a marked difference to his day job!

I may have to have a listen.  I know theat he and Vai are pretty good friends as Vai diaries him popping round to his place for a chat a while back (or maybe it was the other way round).  Any album i should look at in particular?  I've always thought he makes RHCP what they are, even though i'm not really a fan of theirs.

His solo stuff is a long way away from the Chilis in terms of styles. Most of his material is about capturing a moment, the playing doesn't have to be flashy even though he is a great musician and the sound of his work ranges from DIY to full-blown production.

It really depends what you like I guess, if you like a bit of a DIY approach then I absolutely love "To Record Water Only for Ten Days" which is recorded on an 8-track.

Shadows Collide With People is probably as good a place to start as any, nice range to the songs and Frusciante sings brilliantly, Flea and Chad Smith play on most the songs too.

Curtains is a wonderful acoustic album.

Everything he's done has merit to be honest.

What really stands out is that he is becoming a fine singer as well. I like his voice. The new album showcases that again. Also, the production thing is much more upfront this time. Not that it is over-produced (far from it!) but it is more as if he using the studio trickery as an added instrument. I know he hangs out with Omar Lopes-Rodriguez (the Mars Volta), guess it rubbed off a bit.

The new album just turned up for me last weekend, I've only listened to it a couple of times so far. Very interesting as all his efforts are, I'm sure its qualities will be revealed more with further listens.

Interesting cover of Song to the Siren but I'm not sure anyone should ever be allowed to cover that, although Buckley's best version (by far) is the one he performed on the Monkees TV show.

Johnny Marr plays on a couple of tracks but you wouldn't know it.
