Chris Chew, bass player for North Mississippi Allstars, described as 'kinda gross' by an American in the crowd at a gig of theirs I attended a few years ago....

That's a big dude...!  Bet he plays a mean bass though.

Fun topic.  Now someone ought to do one on the best bean pole guitarsist..!  Who's the skinniest, most Karen Carpenter-esque axeman around??

Tad Doyle of Sub-Pop's TAD always impressed me when I saw photos of him. No idea what his guitar playing's like though...

I once interviewed Tad Doyle for a fanzine I wrote for, when his band were supporting Soundgarden at Manchester Academy. He was a truly terrifying and intimidating interviewee. Halfway through he started smoking some sort of illicit substance through a slit in a Coke can. Being naive in the ways of drugs I can't tell you what it was, but the only time I was ever more scared in the presence of a musician was when I met Jaz Colman of Killing Joke.

Anyhoo, Tad were ace. They rocked like Satan, which suits me fine.

Who's your favourite porky player, your top fat fretboard fondler?

BB King? Steve Hogarth? Leslie West?

Is there a weighty whammy-bar wangler you admire? A rotund rocker you're keen on, a stout Stratocaster plucker, a tubby Telecaster jockey? Or perhaps an overweight Ovation strummer? A roly-poly Rickenbacker picker?

Or is Lerxst your favourite portly power-chorder?

Just found this old thread while googling "Walter Trout". WTF was going through my head

Also, I think you meant Steve Rothery, not Steve Hogarth...

Surprised not to see any mention of young Marcus King, since this thread has been resurrected. A great player, better than his years would suggest.... similar to his waistline in that respect...  ;D
Can't get enough of that long hair music...
