I've finally finished the 2nd (and final) book of Hamilton's latest epic The Commonwealth Saga.  Bloody fantastic.

The books are:

Pandora's Star
Judas Unchained

Not as huge in scope as his Night's Dawn trilogy, but ultimately more satisfying - and with a much better ending than Night's Dawn.

Highly, highly recommended.  And I doubt you'll find an alien foe more determined than MorningLightMountain.

If you like any of his earlier work, or anything by Alastair Reynolds, then you'll love this.
Standing in the shadows, hiding from the light
Reach out in the darkness, and hold on for your life
All the fear of the future, all the emptiness inside
When the moment of truth arrives, hey, you can run but you can't hide

Just heard that Peter is now working on a new trilogy The Void, set some 1500 years after the events of Judas Unchained.
