Are mobile phones susceptable to virus's?

I've just received a text message from someone(don't know who). It shows in my inbox as >Pers. I can't open it and I can't erase it.

Any ideas, anyone?

There are rumours abound that Symbian and Microsoft OS powered fones could be susceptible but as far as Im aware standard fones aren't. Try off /  sim card, battery out / wait a few mins / all back in / on. Sounds mad but its solved probs on my piece of dung before.
