Your Albums of the Year - 2018
« on: December 17, 2018, 12:32:25 PM »
I've got two weeks off at Christmas. Loads of time for listening to new music. Looking forward to reading what people have enjoyed in 2018 and giving some of it a listen.

For me 2018 was another killer year for new music. It took me an age to whittle down almost 40 brilliant albums to just ten. But here they are:

1. Boss Keloid - Melted On The Inch
2. Chubby Thunderous Bad Kush Masters - Come & Chutney
3. Under - Stop Being Naive
4. Tuskar - The Tioe. Beneath. The Wall.
5. Sleep - The Sciences
6. Limb - Saboteurs Of The Sun
7. Old Man Lizard - True Misery
8. Yawning Man - The Revolt Against Tired Noises
9. Black Tusk - TCBT
10. Grave Lines - Fed Into The Nihilist Engine

I have, thanks to Angry Metal Guy, and a bit of help from ARH, have had a splendid year for new music, so in no particular order:-

1: Boss Keloid-Melted on the Inch
2: Soulfly-Rituals
3:Solstice-White Horse Hill
4:King Goat-Debt of Aeons
5: 1914-The Blind Leading the Blind
6: Gorod-Aethra
7: High On Fire-Electric Messiah
8: Psycroptic-As the Kingdom Drowns
9: Allfather-And All will be desolation
The new songs are an abomination

There'd be, like, two albums on my list, which I haven't even got round to buying yet so I can listen to them properly.  So that'd be Muse and FM, probably.  That'll have to do for this year.  :-\

Haven't bought nothing this year, and happy with that as I've got no interest in new music.

Rob you know I love you right?  :-*

I just find that statement so very sad. You're missing out on some great stuff. Rock is definitely having another purple patch. Admittedly you have to go find it as it won't come looking for you, but from the light end MickPaz listens to through to the heavy shit I dig, there's some killer new bands on the block just waiting for you to discover them.

You'll always have Rush. But as they're gone and not coming back...... ;)

I'm getting a bit Zoonyied in my old age. Not bought much new stuff at all. Bought twice as much old stuff.
Anyway, my top 10 in no particular order. OK then, alphabetical, here's the 10 new albums I bought this year:

1. Boss Keloid - Melted on the Inch
2. Conan - Existential Void Guardian
3. Earthless - Black Heaven
4. Elephant 9 - Greatest Show on Earth
5. Ihsahn - Amr
6. Monster Truck - True Rockers
7. Ring Van Mobius - Past the Evening Sun
8. Riverside - Wasteland
9. Rikard Sjoblom's Gungfly - Friendship
10. Sleep - The Sciences

(OK so I bought Spock's Beard's latest too, but I'll keep schtum on that...)

Lots of new music bought, but not much of a great standard for me....

Best of the bunch :

1. Magpie Salute - High Water I. A real grower and was great live
2. The Pineapple Thief - Dissolution. See above
3. The Temperance Movement - A Deeper Cut. A change of direction, but worthwhile.
4. Lunatic Soul - Under a Fragmented Sky
5. Neil & Liam Finn - Lightsleeper. A little too light for me
6. Riverside - Wasteland. Hasn't grabbed me and the live shows were underwhelming for this fan.
7. Massive Waggons -  Full Nelson
7. Paul Weller - True Meanings
7. Manic Street Preachers - Resistance is Futile
7. The Sheepdogs - Changing Colours

Well things escalated quickly with Boss......downloaded Melted from Deezer and loved it - bought the CD before I'd finished playing the whole album, now delving into back cat....ticket secured for London show in January too - Desert Storm were already playing so no brainer really as nothing planned for that night. Let's get another APF band added to the show.....Trevors Head, Blind Haze or Pist maybe.....come on Andy, weave your magic!!

I'll review my 2018 release CD purchases over Christmas and publish my top 10 in a week or so....

Yes Andy, and you know I love you too mate. You won't change me though, it's the way I am, and that's how it will always be. My peak time with music has come and gone, probably 90% RUSH and the rest a few other bands, and I'm more than happy to stick with that til the end of my days 🙂.
