2112 is my favourite of all my vinyl records. On my 17th birthday back in the Middle Ages I bought my first three Rush albums - Fly By Night, Caress of Steel and 2112. The first two were the UK copies but 2112 was a US import copy - the card was stiffer, the printing seemed a bit glossier and higher quality, and it had a distinctive smell when I pulled it from the clear cover - hard to describe, a bit like paint thinners. Something to do with the printing process or the cardboard manufacturing.

I rarely listen to 2112 these days I must admit but if I do, I dig out my vinyl copy and sniff the gatefold sleeve. Pure nostalgia. I don't have a turntable now but I suppose I could re-encode my CD copy to 13-bit, roll off a bit of the treble and add a bit of noise.
