Quote from: Bisto on February 20, 2012, 16:33:45 pm It was indeed...in fact I'd go so far as to say it was the best musical performance I've seen in my 49 years.... simply wonderful to behold in such an intimate and sophisticated venue and at such close quarters. I fancy either one of us could have played keyboards without leaning over from our table.well....I say play.....hmmmIn defence of the Bearded Crusader we were both already very well lubricated before the Daiquaries arrived and then, as you do, we had far too many for our own good. Luckily for me I had the foresight to develop a substantial layer of protective winter blubber which saved me from joining Dan in adding a splash more colour to the evening. Comparitively speaking, he is built like the proverbial racing greyhound to my toothless walrus. Mixing drinks the way we did is never a good idea and despite him having the soul of a bon vivant and spirit of Lord Flashheart too much excess is likely to render him Rowley Birkin QC on the odd occassion..... to be honest I'm amazed it doesn't happen more frequently!I think he might have to go back incognito for the next few years until the memory (and carpet stain) fades. When you look like Billy Gibbons in medieval smart/casual finery you don't exactly blend in with us 'normal' looking stiffs....besides which we did rather draw attention to ourselves throughout the evening due to our frequent and rather too enthusiastic displays of appreciation, however well deserved. The audience were obviously far too cultured, cool and so......ber....spoiled by years of watching superlative musicians chucking out impossibly good sets like confetti as, much to my bewilderment and disgust, the response veered from mild enthusiasm to warm appreciation. Well I'm sorry, I may be a Metalhead rather than Jazzhead and I was squiffier than good taste and decorum allows in such a venarable and revered establishment but I know an amazing gig when I see one! I have never seen such an incredible display of musicianship....hypnotic, latin and carribean rythms, time changes galore, fluid, syncopated, smooth and yet tight as a gnat's chuff. Add to that an unparralled view and crystal clear sound, each instrument perfectly separated and distinct yet blending together perfectly ....no feedback or distortion...a seemingly effortless union of 6 musicians at the top of their game...imagine the best of Mahavishnu, Weather Report, Return To Forever and Brand X with a hint of Santana and Tommy Bolin thrown in and you're almost there. The only thing that could have made this a perfect 10 for me would have been a real brass section instead of keys but that would be the meanest of quibbles! Honestly the playing was on another level...... as if they were but a conduit for the Gods....there was not a beat missed nor a note misplaced or superfluous and everyone played in perfect harmonious synchronicity.......with Cobham completely mesmerizing and totally locked into the groove baby....it was a thing of surpassing beauty..... and the thought occured that should Death take me now I would have no grounds to complain.....Sheer and utter bliss I shit you not! 9.95/10

Quote from: Bisto on February 21, 2012, 21:23:08 pmyeah point taken sorry I was going to do a review in the events section but was waiting to see if the Captain posted first and as he did it seemed too good an opportunity to miss. Apologies if anyone feels its insensitive in this thread.
Quote from: Bisto on February 21, 2012, 23:23:10 pmI know Jazz fusion is not everyone's cup of tea but I reckon a lot of folk here are into 70's prog and or funk...which is not that far removed and I'm sure they would really appreciate the amazing musicianship too. Still grinning!....right back on topic...my neighbour asked me to feed his cat a couple of days ago ...not something I'd do voluntarily but he's a decent old bloke...used to play for Liverpool after the war until he lost his leg in an RTA...anyway a fox has got into the house through the catflap and marked his territory on all the carpets as well as frightened the cat off. We can' t find it anywhere. Not looking forward to having that conversation
