PINK FLOYD REDEFINE THEIR EMI LEGACY

Major Pink Floyd release campaign, Why Pink Floyd...?, to include unreleased music from the archives, collectors' box sets and complete studio recordings remastered.

Pink Floyd and EMI Music, whose association dates from 1967, announce a comprehensive release schedule, to be launched on September 26, 2011, encompassing CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, SACD, an array of digital formats, viral marketing, iPhone Apps and a brand-new single-album 'Best Of' collection.

The legendary band, who are still one of the most successful and iconic artists of all time, recently signed an agreement with EMI which has allowed the development of a multi-format programme of packages, many containing archive material that has been collated during an extensive process between EMI and Pink Floyd for a range of media formats.

That's the 'What do you want for Christmas?' question answered this year then!  :)

........and yes, PF will get to top up their pensions but moreso EMI's owners are trying to recoup some of the cash they spent buying the company.
Thought something like this was on the cards when the likes of HMV were selling the previous remasters at 2 for £10......... ::)

I never quite got the "expand" thing. Releasing recordings that were not considered interesting & good enough to begin with.. One of the downfalls of the digital age if you ask me.
I mean, what is there to add to DSoTM?
Or The Wall for that matter. Add a few bricks?

As you probably know there are some crackers out there in bootleg land - if some them get a proper release I'll definitely be interested.

"Experience editions are expanded versions of classic albums in a Digipak bonus disc format. Included are the original remastered album, a disc of additional material and an expanded CD booklet.

Dark Side of the Moon (September 26th 2011) has on disc 2 a live concert recording from the BBC Archives from November 1974 at Wembley.

Wish You Were Here (November 7th 2011) has on disc 2 Shine On You Crazy Diamond (parts 1-6) live at Wembley November 1974 (2011 mix and previously unreleased), Raving & Drooling live at Wembley November 1974 (2011 mix and previously unreleased), You've Got To Be Crazy live at Wembley November 1974 (2011 mix and previously unreleased), Wine Glasses from the unreleased 'Household Objects' project, Have A Cigar alternative version (previously unreleased), Wish You Were Here featuring Stephane Grappelli (previously unreleased)

It looks like basic albums are the same re-master that has been available for years but the Experience editions, paired with stuff like the above at a reasonable price, are very interesting. The big box sets have amongst other things 5.1 mixes - which makes the Wish You Were Here bank busting edition VERY tempting to start with - but I'm pleased that it looks like the live stuff that Floyd fans have for years been crying out for is going to be available without having to buy a Wilsonesque box set.
