Well, I see he's worked with Bon Jovi so VH won't be unfamiliar territory sound-wise.

 :o

Bon Jovi are filth.  Wash you're mouth out, sonny jim!

Great 1979 live footage... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrfWzx8Tn4o&feature=player_embedded
Why on earth aren't there official DVDs of this line up of the band from back in the day?

Here we go kids .... http://www.vhnd.com/2011/01/21/producer-john-shanks-confirms-working-with-van-halen/

HOORAH!   8)  Hooks, choruses, riffs, dive bombs and fancy tapping on its way.  Is it too much to hope for some synths?  ;)  ;D

You can feck off with yer mincing synths - look at the damage they did to Rush.  ;D

Gonna be interesting to see what they come up with. Dave in his 50s can't really do the parties and girls lyrics any more - or can he?
As for producer we'll have to wait and see I guess. Pity Bruce Fairburn's not still around as balance sounded fantastic - or even Glen Ballard as he did a great job on the two then new Dave tracks which appeared on the first 'best of' compilation.
Jeez - that last material they did together was 1996? How time flies....

I think even by the time he did Skyscraper he'd pretty much put that behind him, though his lyrics today might still have that self-aggrandizement of old.

Totally concur.  Clean and polished, just as radio rock albums should be.  :)

And I stand by my comments on synths.  And Bon Jovi.  :P  ;D

Looks up aggrandizement.... yup. Yeah - his lyrics have matured with him.

Indeed. 1984 attitude with Balance style producing would do me.

VH and Chickenfoot in the studio at the same time. I wonder who's album will surface first?

Was interested to read of the genesis of that record cover - an amazing piece of art.
