Most of those dumb as feck, redneck, JD-swillin' good old boy bands are shit, but the Allmans were the exception that proved the rule.  I like ZZ Top a lot as well, but don't really consider them part of the same genre - they seem to have more of a blues / boogie thing goin' on than the Skynyrd-type country rock shit.

What about CCR? They had some pretty big southern rock hits in their heyday:Proud Mary, Around the Bend, Fortunate Son, Heard if Through the Grapevine, etc.

Yes, Creedence did some great stuff. Born On The Bayou, love that one.

Glad to see Blackfoot top this poll.
One of my faves.
Anyone else at the Newcastle Mayfair (God rest it's soul)
when Blackfoot shredded it.

Freebird is a classic - and was reinvigorated for me last year when I saw Skynyrd at Wembley.

That Smell by LS is another brilliant tune

None of them  ;)

No Black Crowes option, I'd have voted of 'Sting Me', 'Hotel Illness' or the fantastic 'Remedy' off of their 2nd album... if pushed to vote at all  ::)

What no 'Southern Man'  ;)

Love the Black Crowes, especially that 2nd album you mention Neil & Amorica. 8)

Yeah, me too - 'The Southern Harmony & Musical Companion' is my favourite by far. 'Amorica' had some top tunes too (do you remember the kerfuffle over the pubes peeking over the bikini when he came out?! My copy from Woolies in Brighton had a sticker over it!!). I think they lost their way a little after this, and it was only their most recent 'Lions' where they found the groove again  :) Their stuff with Jimmy Page, and their last live double CD is worth having though. Saw them supporting Aerosmith at Wembley Stadium a few years back, they are great live.

I was disappointed with Lions actually, probably my least favourite Crowes album.

Have you heard Chris Robinson's New Earth Mud album? Pretty decent in a mellow non-Crowes way. He's just got rid of the band that played on that & drafted Audley Freed back in. Yet to hear anything with this line up though.
