That's a cracking set-list; and by the looks of it the stuff they enjoy playing the most.  Add in a HYF song and Analog Kid and it's close to perfect.  8)

Obviously there will be other songs, its fairly "stock" though

Should shut the likes of me up though about Jacobs Ladder!!!!

Not surprised to see so many radio singles in there given that it's being marketed as a career retrospective tour.
We'll find out at the weekend how the set is being fleshed out (and rotated)...
Title: Re: R40 Spoilers

Hemi Prelude is good and JL..but the rest... is pretty much par for the course...
Title: Re: R40 Spoilers
Post by: DavidL on May 05, 2015, 13:04:40 pm
V. Disappointing. The only songs I welcome are Jacob's Ladder and Hemispheres Prelude.
Roll The Bones? FFS!
Too many in there we've heard waaay too many times before IMO.

Title: Re: R40 Spoilers
Post by: DavidL on May 05, 2015, 13:11:54 pm
My guess for songs to be on rotation to include Limelight, Force 10, LVS , The Pass, Xanadu and probably Working Man.
Alas, not Anthem, Bastille Day, Cinderella Man and Kid Gloves.

First few tracks mentioned hardly inspire delight and joy do they.....

Clockwork Angels
The Anarchist
The Wreckers
Headlong Flight
Big Money
Far Cry
One Little Victory
Animate
Roll the Bones

Useful I guess if I develop a nasty case of dysentery or incontinence on concert day though.....

So do you honestly look at that cross section of the setlist that I highlighted, which will probably constitute around 40% of the actual musical playing time of the show and think "WOW. They are going to bow out with a bang and reward the fans who have paid megabucks to see us one last time"?

I doubt it very much.

If I had sacrificed my family holiday this year to fly stateside and satisfy my need to see them one last time, I would be absolutely gutted right now

Edit:- We haven't seen the full setlist of course yet.....
Title: Re: R40 Spoilers
Post by: Fishy on May 05, 2015, 15:29:22 pm
The rest of the setlist must be the stuff they haven't played before//or for a very long time...
Title: Re: R40 Spoilers
Post by: DavidL on May 05, 2015, 15:40:36 pm
As that is all stuff with video accompaniment, the rest could be all early material. Perhaps that is just one set and the first set will be played without bells and whistles in a stripped-back presentation - Anthem, Bastille Day, The Necromancer, In The End, Something For Nothing.............................oh! huh? what?!!
yawn..............damn late nights

Change the word "fans" to "fanbois" - puts a whole new perspective on it.  ;) ;D

More seriously, I think we've got to remember that a significant (probable) minority hasn't been into the band as long as the likes of us have, so they're more likely not be as jaded as us lot, hence the set-list won't seem as vanilla.  I absolutely get the yearning for older, deeper cuts though.  Just - please, please, please - no Lamneth...

I will be happy with whatever they play.

Typical of the band that they come up with (half) a set that would go down a treat with their Yurpean fans and then play it to a Seppo audience that would drool over any old pish...

Double necks, tubular bells, Lakeside Park, What You're Doing. I don't suppose it could get much better.

A decent set 1?

Nowt wrong with it.  Great for the fans of nu-Rush and New Rush, and just makes your Old Rush crowd pine for an oldies second set - which they get.  Works for everyone.   8)

There is plenty wrong with it - far better Nu/New Rush songs available from their catalogue. Missed opportunity choosing same olds such as Closer to the Heart (yawn) when they could have had chosen songs that they havn't played for ages if at all eg Afterimage, Different Strings - I could go on......etc ::)

Not a good song for me. I'd like to see it replaced with Bastille Day, although I imagine that would be just as problematic for Geddy. Why haven't they got helium piped through his mic stand?

They'll never keep everybody happy so I suppose it's  an almost impossible task to decide on a set list.

Fo me that's a list that combines too many newer second rate things and too many obvious classics.

The first set in particular despite what I've just said a bit of a mystery they obviously rate CA higher than a lot of us....opening with CA? Really?

Anyway I have to say the video clips on You Tube are fine but not inspiring, production looks a bit lost and for me Jacob's Ladder remains 35 years later some good fragments of a song looking for a worthy home......

I'd go to a Glasgow gig but I can't say I would be overly excited by the prospect of this tour.

I know all the tours since R30 have not been exactly the same but I do get the feeling of a formula running through them all that seems pretty tired 10 years later.......

Second night of the tour in Lincoln Nebraska and there's a few changes in the first half, including a live debut I believe....

The Anarchist
The Wreckers
Headlong Flight (with Drumbastica mini drum solo)
Far Cry
The Main Monkey Business
How It Is
Animate
Roll The Bones (with celebrity rappers video)
Between the Wheels
Subdivisions

I picked a good week to be on nightshift :)

Set 2 and encore is utterly brilliant/surprising .

Yes, very very poor is even being waaaay too kind. To have Clunkwork Arseholes as the opener couldn't be worse for me, still it can only get better after that. Set 2 as fine as it is could be even better if they ditched the same olds for rarer heard gems. I like the into vid though!

Got to be honest I'm distinctly underwhelmed by that set list. Crap first set, all too obvious second set, and not really enough oomph in the encore. Would have liked to have seen representation from every album, and maybe gone a little left field with the song choices.

The evidence is clearly there that Geddy's voice is just not up to singing a lot of their stuff now. I think they know that they can no longer do the old stuff justice and feel they should do the right thing by the fans. As a band and individuals, I think they are too honest to not recognise this. I sincerely hope they enjoy this tour and do not end up feeling it was one tour too far.
