Title: Set Lists thus far
Post by: Neilyyz on September 16, 2012, 14:28:00 pm
Will someone who is on the ball with what is going on be kind enough to put the set lists on here for the 5 gigs thus far as I am getting a bit confused now with songs taken out and replaced etc. It appears that they have played a different set list every night.

Neil, my suggestion is you go on Rush is a Band, all the set lists (5 different so far) are on there, as well as this snippet from an interview with Alex yesterday;
... What happened is the thing that always happens -- the set was much longer than what we had to limit ourselves to. We didn't want to get rid of those songs, so we picked a Set A and a Set B, and since then we've been tweaking it a bit, playing a couple and moving them around. I mentioned to Ged the other day: It's kind of nice to arrive at a gig in the afternoon and decide which songs to switch out that night and keep it mysterious, especially now that everything is blogged and tweeted and e-mailed.
And it's been a whole set list controversy. Having a deep catalog like this makes it difficult to play enough songs that everybody wants to hear. Everybody has their favored and less favored songs. Rush fans are great at debating the merits of songs. And good at expressing their disappointment and elation. (Laughs)
We don't usually do this type of thing, so we may get back in our usual groove. I'd be an advocate for some other stuff, songs we didn't prepare perhaps. ...

For me this is brilliant news, so when we go over in 4 weeks time we may get a different set each night!

GET IN!!!!

Though I do hope to hear all the PoW ones they have played so far over the 3 dates we are attending.

Rich.

Thanks for doing that mate, tas made things a lot clearer now that I can see them written down. Damn glad I bought tickets for 4 of the UK shows and a trip to Berlin. May have to keep an eye out for a decent Brum ticket now and get the full set  if things keep on changing like this.

I rather have TSOR than Working Man as I found Working Man a bit messy on the last tour.
But that said I would prefer them to skip both and end the show with Limelight as they did in 2004 cause it's one of their best songs ever and a perfect way to end a concert.

The first setlist would be improved immensely by a couple of changes. Recognising that they are not going to play any really old stuff, realistic changes would be to  put Limelight in there as the set closer instead of Far Cry and select Kid Gloves as the obscurity from GuP rather than TBE. Also, lose Bravado and play The Pass every night.

Hmmmmm.

Replace Where's my Thing with LVS, Limelight would be a good replacement for Far Cry and give the Bravado/Pass slot to Lakeside Park.

Gets rid of the fallow 90s/00s :)

For me the song changes for the second night in Toronto gave the whole experience a lot more emotional intensity but it's nice having MORE material by going to more gigs than getting the same setlist every night. This is a very good thing in my books and great sensitivity to the fact that a lot of their fans tend to do more than one gig. Makes me wonder how they are going to handle the dvd/bluray release. Maybe they could do a setlist picker option and have you pick your set from the available songs for the tour. :)

I would love those changes but I was trying to suggest tracks they might actually be willing to play.

Well, I think Ged could manage Lakeside Park, it wouldn't suffer from being sung in a more restrained manner.

I seem to remember reading that Neil was embarrassed by the lyrics so there's no chance of it ever being played again.

Yep. The two attached to the songs are mini-solos and just an extension of the song. There's a shorter than normal drum solo in its own little section in the second set. Nicer than one huge solo imo.

Drum solos definitely better from having been split up - the main so is really very good also.

We won't know until they hit the stage in Manchester will we? All I know is that the two shows I am seeing already would both have the same bloody setlists so I am planning a Manc. or Brum invasion now. Probably Manc. as I prefer it to Brum....

Cheers for that Ron.

If they stick to these setlists, it'll be the first set at both of the shows that I'm going to. At first, I was a bit miffed about this.

However, I've seen youtube footage of them doing both The Body Electric and Middletown Dreams and, as much as I love MD, TBE seemed to work better as a live song.

It's a shame that they just can't do them both each night though and alternate Bravado and The Pass.

All the versions I've heard live on the last few tours are slow compared to the excellent version on the ESL dvd. To be fair to the band, they were very near to their peak when that was filmed.
