I was new, then I wasn't allowed on because my name was Ian even though it's Chris. This is a strange, strange place.

Hi everybody!

I`m not new, I`m old. Well actually I have returned under a different name as I lost my log in details and changed internet provider, e-mail etc, etc.

Used to be known as Bouncing Bunny but am now Hogs.

Good to be back and I look forward to getting back in the swing of visiting the site more often.

Cheers Tom.

We met at the Wembley gig and M.E.N in `94. I was with with Neil P and also did a ticket swap at the Wembley gig with a guy from the board whose name I can`t remember for the life of me. However, I did bump into him again just a couple of years ago when working in Rugby. All I remember was that he was from the London area and worked for royal mail. Any ideas?

Hi Neil.
Good to be back after all this time.

How are you doing? Still in H&S?

I thought it was about time I caught up on all of the gossip and what was going on with the band. Any sign of a new album yet?

Hi,

After several weeks of lurking I've decided to sign up. I've been into Rush since seeing them at my first ever gig - Manchester Apollo, A Farewell To Kings tour. That should give you a clue to my age! I live in the Wigan area, and work in and around Manchester as an IT systems developer - sometimes it is as boring as it sounds, other times not so bad.

Cheers

"Ah, Is this the right room for an argument?" :D

Hi folks - long time Rush fan, since Hemispheres. Seen the boys loads of times, mostly at Wembley, made it up to MEN last tour as well.

I used to be on the text version NMS and then the Hemispheres list. But I guess nobody remembers me cos I'm a forgetful guy ... or should that be forgetable? Getting old anyway.

Seen a couple chaps here I recognise from the 'old days'.

Think VT is a crap CD full of good songs. Think S&A is bloody marvellous. Too many fave Rush albums to mention. Also into Spocks Beard, Porky Tree, plus loads of other stuff.

Good to be here, knew I'd find some Rushfans somewhere - I've been a long time out of the tidal pool!

Hey guys im 14 years old, my name is Scott Semple.I'm from Grangemouth in Scotland, im the son of Gordon Semple(Blastzone) I'm a huge rush fan just like my dad. I'm a guitarist hoping to be a musician when I'm older .I Love Alex's work as a guitarist and Geddy's funky bass riffs. i have 2 guitars at the moment. My father bought both of my guitars from his good friend (Dixkot) they are both manufactured by Dean guitars, they are good and i love them. I'm hoping to get an Epiphone Les paul custom deluxe edition for my Christmas  ;D. I have met some guys on here. I've met (OldDog) and I've also met (Oor Wullie) and also i go to Grangemouth high. I want to get my highers in music im doing well so far, I've had a (certificate of Merit) not boasting*cough* .I have alot of influences such as Alex lifeson,Kirk Hammett,Angus Young, Steve Vai,Herman Li and my biggest inspiration of all and my idol is Joe Satriani and well thats enough about me for now, i hope i could make some friends on here, im currently sitting listening to Joe's Band. I would just like to say i think Willie is a great bassist and I'm just going to say bye for now ;D

Hey Scott,

Welcome to TNMS young man.  Thank you very much for the compliment.  I do my best to please.  I'm really glad you like listening to my band.  On the way home from the Rush UK gig last Friday, I played the CD to your dad and we were chatting about it.  He really liked the sound quality of it which was great.  He then said of all the people he would let listen to it and I smiled.  I think your dad is trying to get Joe's Band into his local pub sometime in early 2010 so hopefully the bar manager could let you in that night (as long as you only drink juice! ;) ).

When I was on the phone to your dad he let me hear you playing "Highway To Hell" by AC/DC.  You rock!!!!

Anyway, I'd best be off to bed.  Hope you have a fun time talking to like minded people on here Scott.  Hope to see you and your dad sometime soon.

Take care buddy.

Willie.

Hi All,

I'm a newbie to TNMS. Met some of you at the recent piss-up in The Bon Accord in Glasgow. I live not far from there and strangely it's my local. Brilliant Real-Ales!

When not in Scotland I'm normally out in Varenna,Italy.

Anyhoo, looking forward to getting more involved with The Crew.

I'm on board now. I'm the son of the Doctor. I'm fifteen and Rush are my heroes. I play the drums and keyboard. My favourite album is either Moving Pictures or Permanent Waves, but I do enjoy the others as well. My favourite song is the one I can play which is Limelight. As well as this I can play Bravado, Subdivisions, Vital Signs and even Circumstances amongst others, all on the keys. I've been to see my idols three times- twice on Snakes and Arrows and once on R30; they were exceptional every single time. Rush are the greatest ever band.

It's probably closer to say you're a third of the average age on here ;)

Welcome anyway - with the proviso Old Rush Fans good, New Rush fans not as good :)

Hello National Midday Sun, I'm new to this board, but old so I have just put your average age up. After that young whipper snapper joined, but its good to have fresh new blood, (that sounds a bit vampish) Anyway, onwards.
I first got into Rush when a friend bought me ATWAS for my 18th b'day back in 1976 (so work it out yourself) triple gate import, I still have it today.  I then went to see them at the Free Trade Hall in Manchester on their first tour over here in June 77, it should of been the first date as I seem to remember but they added Sheffied at a later date. And not missed a tour since. Well thats enough from me for now, thanks for listening

Hi everyone,

I discovered this place while I was on the look out for any info regarding the new documentary (ie:  why aren't they bloody showing it in Leeds?!).  Been a Rush fan for about 15 years, recently moved back to the UK after living in Maryland USA for about 4 years and the last Rush gig I went to was the S&A tour in '07 at the Nissan Pavillion in Virginia.  Play guitar (albeit badly) and am glad to be here (...hell, i'm glad to be anywhere!  ;)  )

Hi everybody :D

I'm Jackie. Originally I hail from Dundee in Scotland but I'm now living in Dumfries in the South West of the country. Been a Rush fan since 1976 when friends brought back a copy of "Fly By Night" from a holiday in Canada. Saw the band for the first time at the Apollo in Glasgow in February 1978 ... then God knows how many times since, here and in Holland.

My Rush claim to fame is that you can hear me and one of my mates scream on the intro to "Closer To The Heart" on "Exit... Stage Left"  (I WAS very young and stupid at the time lol)

Really nice to find the UK/European Rush fans forum

Another newbie signing in to say "Hi"!
Been lurking for a while now, looking in at the expert chit-chat, but thought it about time I made meself official, so I can chip-in with some not-so-expert chit-chat!  :P

I'll make my excuses straight away - it was Mark... sorry, Houdi Elbow... erm Rascal H that put me on to this forum some time ago, and onto rock music in general, sometime back in the last century when we were at school together. In fact, my oldest vivid recollection of hearing Rush is sitting on his bed listening to his new copy of All The World's A Stage, tho I'm sure I'd have heard Caress or 2112 before then, also back at his place during one of those school lunchtime 'sessions' (strictly music-based, I assure you  ;)).

While we're doing a bit of name dropping, it might be a good time to mention 'Oz', who my brother & I got to know a few weeks before we met Mark, just before we started at secondary school, whilst on hols on the IOW, staying at the same holiday camp, if memory serves. Imagine our surprise when we met again a few weeks later at my new school in North Londn where he'd already been for a year... yes folks, he's only 1 year older!  ;D

Someone else on here my brother & I have had the pleasure of knowing for some time is 'Gez', not from school but from just after  8)

I'll also give a quick Hi to Bez & Lucy who I've met on a few occasions over the years at gigs  :)

I dont get to as many gigs as Rasc/Oz/Bez etc but managed a dozen or so last year, just about all of which were the dogs bowlocks, highlights of which were:
AC/DC, O2
NIN/Janes Addiction, O2
Pearl Jam, O2
Living Colour, Highbury Garage
Them Crooked Vultures, Hamm Od
and some others I'll need to check back on  :-\

This years highlights so far include
Bigelf/Priestess, Underworld
Matt Schofield, 100 Club
Joe Bonamassa, Hamm Od
Aerosmith, O2
Them Crooked Vultures, Brixton

Lookin forward to Robert Randolph on Aug 4th & Matt Schofield again in Nov, then who knows, maybe even Rush next year  ???

That'll do from me for now. Any questions?   ;D

35 yr old rush fan. Only really listened to them since Vapor trails and snakes & arrows.

have not got into the early recordings, was introduced to them by an ex.

this is first rush forum I have seen, so thought I would sign up and see what is going on. I live and work in Bristol UK.

Ah.  Another South Walian Rush Nutter.  Hi Mike and welcome.  I've worked in Cardiff on many an occasion - great place.  I'm from St. Athan originally (approx 27 years), then North Wales (20 years), and sadly since June this year, Peterborough <sigh>.

I understand that, I have not got into them as yet, I am sure i will.. plenty of time and material. Favourite of older stuff at moment is Moving Pictures. But have sort of got stuck on the most recent albums. I enjoyed counterparts. But can't imagine I will ever be a great fan of fly by night and rush. Saw them at NEC on snakes and arrows tour, with ex, and hope to see them again soon if they tour UK

Gah, Moving Pictures isn't older stuff, that's on the cusp of New Rush, and was already a lesser album than the few preceeding ones.

Welcome anyway :) You don't live on top of a house do you?

to me Moving Pictures is an older rush recording than those I has originally mentioned, I know it is not their earliest. You suggest it was already a lesser album than others, but that surely is a subjective view?

Thanks for such a warm welcome, I had been warned that overlooking the early stuff may not be a great way to introduce myself. As for living at top of a house? I have no idea of the subtle comment, I live in a house, and sometime on ground floor, sometimes on first floor.

I see. I am surprised, as I actually believe snakes and arrows to be a great album. I guess i am looking at rush from different perspective to hard core fans, who believe 2112 represent everything that rush should be. I see that Rush have moved along way since the 70's, and if they hadn't they would not be the success they are today. Snakes and Arrows says a lot more than 2112 with less. Less words, Peart is concise, subtle and to the point about religion and concerns about the world that surrounds him. The music is powerful and allows all three to combine as a rock threesome! The two new tracks are just a continual improvement from somewhere I didn't believe they could improve from. It is a more mature and complete sound than the sounds of what I see as an angry and tormented 70's group

I think I've twigged Nick's top of the house reference.  Some people (grrrrrr) pronounce Three as Free.  Threads as Freds and so on and so forth.  How would they pronounce Ruth?

Just Nick trying to be funny.  I would say he should stick to his day job, but he's just been made redundant.  Sign of the times.

I didn't mean that to come over that I view 70's rush as bad.. they were evolving, but it was an angry sound, and snakes and arrows is a product of the evolution the band have followed..

Welcome aboard Ruth, and i'm sure like all of us you will make your own mind up on what you think of RUSHs works! Like a lot of people on here, i own all of RUSHs albums, and can honestly say that i enjoy, and still play all of them regularly. I can also honestlly say that there isn't one that i don't like, but obviously i prefer some to others. In my opinion, from Hemispheres through to Signals is the finest collection of material from any band or artist in the history of music.

thanks, and hi Zoony....  I have found all rush is good, but I do feel they have advanced and improved, I guess we all have our reasons for liking a certain album or period, I imagine something to do with other stuff going on in our lives at the time, as well as the actual music, The scar that that moment and music has on our emotions and memories.

I am looking forward to diving into more rush, and understanding the meaning of it all.

Thanks for the welcome, I do feel Rush are the best artists i have heard so far in my life

to me Moving Pictures is an older rush recording than those I has originally mentioned, I know it is not their earliest. You suggest it was already a lesser album than others, but that surely is a subjective view?

No it's the the true and fair view :) Best Rush album is Hemispheres, this is an indisputable FACT, so anything later has to be of lesser quality, that's just the way it is.

So this "fact" you refer to, I imagine this is your subjective opinion that you are trying to prove to yourself and others? I have listened to hemispheres, and have it on Iphone, and it is a great work, but I feel it is almost too complex.. i realise the meaning behind the words, and I realise they were pushing themselves to the limit of their ability, but I just feel Snakes and Arrows still have the same level of musicianship, and it all joins together to accompany the amazing lyrics in an almost perfect way, less can be more. Hemispheres is the more.

No it's definitely a FACT, I know another couple of peeps agree with me, so I must be right. Complexity is good.

Quotei realise the meaning behind the words, and I realise they were pushing themselves to the limit of their ability, but I just feel Snakes and Arrows still have the same level of musicianship, and it all joins together to accompany the amazing lyrics in an almost perfect way, less can be more. THe words don't matter, it's all about the music maaannn. I don't see how if Rush were pushing themselves to the limit on Hemispheres how S&A can have the same level of musicianship. I know that I have never been tempted to play my bass along to S&A, whereas I am with Hemispheres (even though I can't play it) More is most definitely more. The lyrics on S&A are complete and utter pants, especially those on Bravest Face.

Of course apart from the FACT of Hemispheres being the best rush album, all other things are my own opinion, but it's good to have a Mass Debate every now and gain.

I love your assumption that a couple of people agree with you confirms your own belief that you must be right. How many don't agree with you?

I agree that they pushed themselves to the limit of their ability, and the complexity is part of the beauty of hemispheres, ut that does not make it their best. Less can be more! so they can make the tracks shorter, have less length in the time of the song, and produce something that combines their musiciianship off in an extreme way, and covey the lyrics is a more concise way. You get all the great bits of hemispheres, combined with a simpler performance layer on top.

You appraisal that the lyrics are pants was an insightfull and valuable contribution to the debate, espcially when you had already stated the lyrics don't matter. You can't have it both ways on that.

We may beg to differ on the great Snakes and Arrows, and I may not agree with you thet Hemispheres is their best ever. But we both agreee they have produced some great stuff, stay opne minded to their shifts and evolution, they know what they are doing!

In this instance I will delay appraising your intelliegnce and ability to be subtle, I will ignore the headwear and your self deluded belief that you are always right. Pending review

When one of those people is NeilP, then it carries some weight.

But Hemispheres has nice concise pop songs like Circumstances and The Trees Truly it is a complete smorgasbord of delights, something for all the family -exceot the grandparents and kids...

QuoteYou appraisal that the lyrics are pants was an insightfull and valuable contribution to the debate, espcially when you had already stated the lyrics don't matter. You can't have it both ways on that.

Sorry, should have made myself clearer on that point, lyrics are of no concern to me unless they are bad, when they can make you cringe, such as the aforementioned Bravest Face it can really detract form a song. FWIW I am the third greatest living parodier of Rush lyrics :)

I am pleased that you know when you are wrong.. Sounds as Mrs S has trained you well.

I can agree that Circumstances is a great concise track, The trees allmost is too simple lyrically, too obvious. I believe lyrics are very important, and they covey what the track is about, and should set the foundation for the delivery of the music that accompanies it.. we agree that Hemspheres is great, I just prefer snakes and arrows... but have listed to snakes and arrows more, so I never say never.

It is a shame that you don't enjoy the lyrics.. as to me they account for more thn 50% of my enjoyment

Ruth, welcome to the board. 8)

On this occasion, the man Sims speaks the truth. There are some disillusioned youngsters who might argue differently but Hemispheres is indeed Rush's zenith and yes, it's a complex work. I'd suggest you give your ears a really good clear out and give the recording another spin on your hi-fi. Better still, when alone, pour yourself a glass of something special, ramp up the volume and listen to it in total darkness, save for the reflection of the moon through the windows of your music room! ;)

Hope you enjoy it on here!

There is no doubt that Hemispheres is a stunning album, one of their best, however, this was of course, but one step (albeit a major one) on the band's evolution towards their peak of song-writing in the mid to late 80's.  Just when you thought things couldn't get any better with the incredible Power Windows[/i[, along came the one album to rule them all, the simply sublime [Hold Your Fire.

Interesting. They mean very little to me, it's all about the music. I've yet to see a better opening to a RUSH concert than the R30 overture, which is just magic.

Welcome Ruth, I'm not too far from you - just up the road in Cheltenham. :)

Simmers is of course correct, well almost. Hemispheres is their joint best album along with the criminally overlooked and wrongfull chastised but magestic Caress of Steel. 8)

Snakes and Arrows in definitely a grower, but unfortunately like a wart. The more I listen to it the more I discover to dislike about it. Sure there are a couple of half decent (at best)recordings on there, but unfortunately, the turds far outweigh them and this disc is now seriously affecting the 'skip' button functionality on my remote with overuse. ::)

Without doubt the band's best period was the debut album up to and including Permanent Waves. It was all downhill from Moving Pictures onwards I'm afraid. :'(

You can avail yourself of the vast thread history on the site to discover any degree or depth of serious, intellectual, nay philosophical, discussion of the ages of Rush. She's not that much of a woman though. She can grow a better moustache than me :(  :-[ :-X

There are only two certainties in life (apart from death and taxes, but I couldn't be bothered to write there are four certainties in life, except now I jabe): Hemispheres is the best Rush album, and women should know their place.

Hmmm, you seem to be a pretty smart cookie for a chick.

You're quite right, women cannot understand cricket, in my experience all they seem to do is wet their pants whenever KP comes in to bat. Luckily they can soon change back into dry ones  ;D

Now can you an Spudders be a love and rustle up a few rounds of cucumber sandwiches?  ;)

Yes of course m'lord....

You are right, speaking for myself cricket is a mystery, although the mystery why men can watch a sport for 5 days, that can end with no result, as there was not enough time to finish? and they need a formulae to work out who won, and even then no one actuallly understands the formulae anyway? You are can be out when you are in, and in when you are out?

crikect positions make me laugh, leg before, silly mid off?
as for  kevin petterson? not sure he gets my love juices flowing, "wetting my pants" as you stated, maybe he does it for you, but not me. Are you jealous we can just change into dry ones?

I am pleased you know mrs s in in control.. good for her!

off to kitchen and bake some cakes whilst listening to hemispheres

Just stumbled into this thread and had a fantastic laugh...... Welcome Ruth, sorry you missed the 'Sims Warning' on the way in..... there's usually a 'pop-up' window that warns people about him if it detects they are female or have anything nice to say about Vapor Trails.

Hemispheres is not the best album Rush have recorded.......................... It's the best album ANYONE has ever recorded EVER in the history of EVER!!!!

No other record sounds like it............ the SOUND Alex got out of his guitars on that album is unique and the warmth of the whole thing is utterly beautiful.... Knocks A Farewell to Kings into oblivion......

Nick's right about Caress of Steel too.... if only they'd been able to utilise the production qualities of Hemisheres on Caress of Steel......

Anyway..... There are plenty of opinions on here........ Reg likes Hold Your Fire..... Analog likes Presto, We all seem to like Beer and Curry and I have to say that the people on here are some of the best folks I have ever met!!

Now....... how's the Tea and Cakes coming on????

Well as I can be fallible - when Mrs S says so - then it could well be I got it wrong, and therefore I'm wrong about you always being right.
Funnily enough though, Mrs S - a woman and therefore a creature who shouldn't like Rush - her favourite Rush album is AFtK...

Chicks just don't dig Rush, the gig demographics prove this. It's hard to dance round your handbag in 7/8.
Rush are/were a band for Grammar School boys.

Well she does think it's all been downhill since AFtK, which is a bit harcdore even for me  ;D ;)
But she's also a fan of the M**dy Bl**s  :P :-[ :-X which is a bad thing, but probably good for gurlies as she always wants to talk hairspray tips with Justin.

What has surprised me, is that she says she'll come and see Opeth with me next time they tour. That's a surprising thing!

Hello all - I didn't see this introduction thread until just a few minutes ago., so hence my delay in introducing myself lol.  Another female has joined the forum!!!!!!

Been hadcore Rush fan for a LONG time.   Seen them 4 times (twice through in Edinburgh, once on the Moving Pictures tour, cant remember the other tour), 30th anniversay tour and theSnakes & Arrows tour.  Have to say the anniversay tour was just simply mindblowing.   Best concert of all time and best night of my entire life.  Was lucky enough to get 2nd row ticket right and was so close to the stage it was amazing.  Love all the early Rush - like most of the new Rush as well., but its not a patch on the old stuff.  Bastille Day, Working Man, Anthem, Limelight., In The End, By-Tor, Bangkok and What You're Doing prob my fav songs - although have to say probably one of the highlights of the 30th tour was Animate - that was superb.

My 3 top fav bands are Rush, Sabbath and Budgie., also into UFO., Scorps., Krokus, AC/DC, Purple, Blackfoot, Zep, Floyd and still heavily into NWOBHM - fav bands of that genre would be the mighty Saxon :P, (and jjust as I typee "Saxcon", Crusader has just come on radio) Diamond Head, Angel Witch, Girlschool, Tank, Praying Mantis, vintage Maiden, Raven, Quartz etc - seen them all as well.

Live just outside Glasgow in Paisley and work in the X-ray department of local lhospital.

Newbie here...

Grew up in the States (Cleveland where Rush was huge) and moved to London April 2010. First tour was Moving Pictures. My indoctrination to Rush was a bootleg 2112 8-track tape (remember those?).

Have seen them many times since, including 3 times with my oldest son who is soon to be 14. Found this place looking for info on the Ahoy show.

Love living in the UK. Been to Spain, Italy, Portugal and Netherlands since we moved here and really enjoyed them all. Barcelona is my favorite so far, fantastic city.

Hello all.

Hi everybody!

I'm not exactly a newbie, but only started contributing this year. Should really have introduced myself before posting - still, better late than never.
Already had warm welcomes from Norwegian, masterbuilder and Pudders (thanks again).
Started listening to Rush after seeing them play Xanadu on OGWT in ?1977; prompted me to buy the Closer to the Heart EP, then AFTK, which is one of the very few vinyl albums I kept from the 70s.
Used to attend many gigs at the Glasgow Apollo, but only saw Rush live for the first time on the R30 tour. Really regret not seeing them back in the day. I remember when ESL came out, I had it on cassette and it was seldom off the tape deck - wish I'd been part of the "Glaswegian chorus"!
I grew up in Glasgow where I stayed for 30 years before moving to the Isle of Bute in the mid- 80s where I work as an NHS dentist.
I see there is a sizable Scottish contingent on the forum.
I am a member of a few other music fansites and must say I enjoy following the threads on t-n-m-s immensely.
Terrific site!

Douglas

Same way I got into Rush Doug - through the OGWT with Xanadu, the BBC cocked it up the first time and played it again the next week if I recall.
They also cocked up the recently released CD because Rush were nowhere to be found on it even though they must be the only band to appear with the same song twice on that show.

Anyway, a belated welcome to you.

Welcome aboard Douglas. I admire anybody who works for the NHS...Thanks! Guys and gals like you are the everyday unsung heroes imho. I know hardly anything about Bute but it looks beautiful from the photos I've seen [my wife has a cousin who lives in Greenock and he used to go out with a lass from Bute years ago. He goes back there  quite a bit I think and theres a few sketches and photos in his house]  I'd imagine you must have to travel to Glasgow and have an overnight stay for gigs etc?

Thank you Nik and Bisto for the kind comments.
I had forgotten about OGWT playing Xanadu twice. Did they cut it short the first time and replay it the following week in full after viewer complaints?
Yes, major gigs require an overnight stay in Glasgow - less than an hour's travel by road, but ferry crossing to the mainland required.
These days would only go to see Rush or Peter Hammill/Van der Graaf Generator. (The Who if they take Quadrophenia on tour).
Saw Dylan on the Modern Times tour.
Last year was great - VdGG at the O2 ABC March, Rush SECC May.  8)
We have the occasional name coming to Bute - Mogwai, The Proclaimers and Bill Bailey (who was fantastic!) spring to mind.

Cheers,

Douglas

That's a big call, and one that I don't agree with. Hell, Rush were fantastic pre-Hemispheres, but to say they've been getting worse ever since? No, not in my opinion anyway. I am allowed an opinion right?  ;)

'82 to '87 albums are defo the 'best' for me but the rest follow so close behind its almost unmeasureable.

But that's just my nostalgia showing thru and I'd listen to any of the new stuff before any of of the old.

Been blasting HYF today... still my all time fave! 8)

Hi Everyone, I am not a new member of TNMS, but a returning RUSH fan.

I listen to so much music its hard to say where my true interest lies. Rock music? Of course, otherwise I wouldn't be back here. I suppose all forms of rock, classical, opera, celtic, country, I like them all.

This year I was made redundant with little chance of employment, which turned out to be spot on. After spending summer doing all those home things that needed doing I now have time on my hands to listen/watch lots of music.

I've always enjoyed RUSH with 2112 and Moving Pictures being the two albums I listen to most.

If you remember me then by all means stop by and say hello.

Aye, welcome back :)

Redundancies a real pisser. Happened to me twice in the last 6 years had to take a step down both times, although before the second redundancy I'd managed to step up a few rungs. I expect it'll be third strike and out, but ho-hum, you never know what's round the next corner - apart from doom, gloom and misery...

Hi Nick & Patrick,

Although unemployed I am not looking as it goes a bit deeper than that. I have taken my pension early and spend my time doing things I want to do for a change. If a job did come along in my back garden I would consider it but only if the terms were right!

Your both absolutely right, being made unemployed is a real bummer. In my case I am pleased I put away for a rainy day!

I certainly am - Still coming down to earth after last seasons Champions League final. Shame this season has been dogged with the racist/ref problems.

I meet John Terry and Ashley Cole two seasons ago and what came across was the amount of time John and Ashley spend with the young foreign (Especially black) players, helping them settle into the club - it must be a huge step to some. I'm sure the same happens at clubs like Arsenal and Man Utd! So I was gob-smacked when John got done for racism!

Hello all!

I've been a RUSH fan since 1979 when my now oldest and closest friend introduced me to Hemispheres at school. It blew my mind and I've not been the same since :) I love a lot of music, John Tavener, Zappa, Gong and Hillage, It Bites and Dunnery, Mussorgsky, Everything Everything, The Police, flamenco .. I love cooking, fishing, and I'm also an experienced performing and recording musician. I primarily play bass and guitar, and dabble with drums and vocals. I play for a brilliant new prog-pop artist, Kit Richardson, and for established artists Transglobal Underground's 'London Zulu' band, and sitarist/composer Sheema Mukherjee. I compose and record my own music in my tiny home studio and hope to have an album out next year.

Looking forward to engaging with you all about my favourite band, and perhaps other stuff. Although by day I'm a Health and Safety Adviser so you may be predisposed to thinking I'm an interfering bastard :D

Cheers,
Nigel

Hi guys, thanks :)

Yeah I love them both and been a fan as long as I have Rush. Finally got to see both a couple of years ago in London, and as my sax player is a mate of Mike Howlett (hugely under-appreciated bassist and musician IMO) we had passes into the after party. I met Mr Hillside and had a lovely chat about his little Steinberger (he sold the Strat :O) and fishing on the River Kennett. I'd had a few single malts and warned him I was about to be overly sycophantic, but he was totally cool :) One of the best gigs I've ever been to!

It's my fourth gixer750 since 2001. Luckly I've only had one 40mph head-on collision with a car, in '99 on a ZXR400. Walked away from it, but the poor bike was finished ::)

There's something very romantic about 750s, and 400 V4s. I nearly got an RVF400 after the 600. Very glad you walked away from your collision mate!

Hi all.

I'm not new (either as a person or as a member on here) but for some reason, when I tried to log on the other day, the system had no record of my original account which I'd had since about 2006, so I've had to sign up again. (Same user name & everything, though.) Not that I posted much, anyways. Maybe I got culled for not having posted in a while.

But now I'm back... From outer space...

Let's see... Became a fan in about 1980 but the first album I heard was A Farewell To Kings, which my brother had been on at me to listen to. I'd ignored him, but one day he put it on across the far side of my room when I was in bed & too ill to move. Needless to say I was hooked.

Cheers! Is there a specific place for logging all the jolly-ups or should I just keep me eyes open?

It will normally just be in the General Chat area - although some folks may arrange a meet-up if attending the same gig - so keep an eye in other bands and events too if you are attending a particular concert then you might see people planning a pre gig beer.

Hello!  :)

I'm come from the Counterparts board, following Slim and NickSlick.  Rush fan since 1980.  Been to see them five times since 1983.  I prefer the older albums up to GUP to the more recent offerings.  I play bass and mostly listen to jazz these days.

Favourite telly show:  Breaking Bad
Favourite novel: The Grapes of Wrath
Football team:  Brentford FC
Cricket team:  Middlesex CCC

Yeah, it used to be good but several of the stars have left, and there's that eejit spamming the place up and the mods won't ban him.

Hello....my name is Andrew aka Bisto....I'm not quite sure what I'm doing.......here.......but have a strong feeling of deja vu.

It'll probably all end in tears and/or bloodshed but they say that; in Life, you only reget the things you didn't do....who am I to argue?!
