Title: Six Nations 2018
Post by: Bez on February 02, 2018, 13:31:08 pm
This has crept up on me this year...

Some interesting potential match ups with the Welsh (and to a lesser degree the English) struggling with injuries an excellent Irish squad and the best Scots squad for many a year...

I'm going for 3 away wins this weekend with the Irish to beat France comfortably, Scotland to squeak past Wales and England to start poorly and romp away in the second half against Italy

Ireland to pip England overall

I hope you're right, but i can't see the French turning over the Paddys, even on their own patch...

Agree about Scotland and England but I suspect Ireland will beat France. I'm not in the slightest bit confident about our chances against Wales though. We've got a massive injury list ourselves and nowhere near the depth of other countries. Three entire front rows are either injured or banned for this first match. We just need to avoid scrums. 🙄. Italy will probably start strongly but they pretty much always run out of steam and England will run in a few tries against them. I hope so because my Fantasy 6N team is loaded with English players this week.

amazing by Ireland/Sexton to snatch the win yesterday.  Heartbreaking from a French perspective

Scotland

Time to let Georgia or Romania or Spain have a go I reckon. Offer nothing to the 6 nations, or indeed the British Lions, other than a nice away trip to watch your own side win. May as well make it a trip to Barcelona then

well, 2 results correct and badly let down by the Jocks...didn't see the game or the highlights, so can't really comment on the performance...

I think a bit more humility might be in order, they only have a population of about 5.5 million so they're bound to be a bit shit.

Nope. When it comes to Sport, I loathe the scots! (apart fom andy murray when we need him to be british)

Still not forgiven them for 1990 in the 5 nations

Not based on last week's performances....the Welsh must have a chance against the English and the French against the Scots...

watched the second half of the Wales England game - dire stuff!
Title: Re: Six Nations 2018

Home wins all round. Thankfully we played a damn sight better than the dire performance against Wales. I missed yesterday's games but from the highlights I've seen, Ireland thumped Italy in the first half before subbing a load of players on and going to sleep allowing them three tries in the second. I only saw the tries (and the non-try) in the England v Wales match. If that decision had been given against my team I'd be absolutely raging.

Not sure what to say about the TMO, it obviously worked in our favour. These guys are professionals/qualified referees, and are impartial.

Its a bit lie in the cricket when they are using replays to guage catches and whether the ball bounces first on a low one. TV angles can be very misleading/revealing in equal measure.

Player thought he had put pressure on the ball, I havent got a clue!

France's turn to batter Italy -  Les Bleus may be playing themselves into form ahead of the England game
Ireland to edge past the Welsh on home advantage.
England to edge past the Scots based on gameplan and strength in depth from the bench

France will win, but not really fussed about French form. They are big, heavy and unfit. ngland will run them ragged then win in the last 10
Ireland to win against Wales, but think it will be close
We will do the Scots by plenty
Title: Re: Six Nations 2018
Post by: BaldiePete on February 23, 2018, 16:18:34 pm
Calcutta Cup matches at Murrayfield are usually tight and low scoring but I expect an England win. They have weight in the forwards,  plenty of experience and show good mental strength (possibly our weakest attribute) to get the win no matter what.

France to beat Italy but god knows how it will go after they dropped a bunch of players for going out on the piss in Edinburgh after the last match. What is the world coming to when rugby players can't have a drink after a match?

Ireland to beat Wales. Ireland rarely lose at home and even with injuries I expect Sexton to guide them to  a win.

I love the Calcutta cup, something very raw and basic about the battle.
Certainly wont be a repeat of last years Twickenham cricket score, Scotland a different side and different mindset, and we have some injuries (which side doesnt these days?)

We're better than we've been for quite some time but last year was a total brainfart on our part. See my comment about our mental strength, when it doesn't go well for us, the heads go down. Mind you our hooker was yellow carded in the first minute (and probably should have got red), Hogg went off injured after 15 minutes and his replacement also went off injured 5 minutes later. We ended up with our replacement scrum half on the wing and replacement stand off at full back. We'd have lost anyway but those losses were a factor in the size of the defeat. I'm intending to watch this weekends match from behind the sofa.  :o

Nothing worse than a gloating Jock, unless its the "performance" of 15 Englishmen on a rugby field yesterday...best team won on the day.

Gloating Taffs are nowhere near as bad....I'd almost compare gloating Jocks to gloating Liverpudlians, but with more "grace".... :P

Sometimes you need a backward step to go forward, but I still think we'll fall short of at least one of the 3 southern hemisphere giants come the WC. Mike Brown doesn't give me any confidence, and why does our captain never play a full game?

Back after a week off to contemplate the "shock" loss to Scotland...

I'm predicting the Irish to remain on course for a Grand Slam by beating the Jocks (less than 10)
England to edge past France after failing to find early "rhythm"
Wales' "reserves" to stick it to Italy with a 20 point margin
Title: Re: Six Nations 2018

Just seen teh England team for the weekend....

Hartley's throw into the line-out will be missed, but Geroge's overall contributionn should outweigh that

Why does EJ persist with Lawes at flanker? Are we that short of decent back-rowers that we have to include a 2nd row  :-\

The inclusion of Te'o & Daly implies that we're epxecting a tough game out wide...

I think we will try and beat them up or at least beat each other up for 60 minutes, then let the likes of Joseph and Simmons come on with pace

Ireland to beat the SCots, who dont travel well, and I assume the Wales 2nd team will beat Italy

That sounds about right. Your match is going to be an arm wrestle (or maybe mud wrestling depending on the weather).

Indeed....so much work to do with the forwards at the break down and the backs look devoid of ideas...

How can a team that was going so weel last season slip away so badly...

It must be a psychological thing with the WC approaching mate. It happens to the football team as well!

Wales to beat France by more than 10 pionts

Thank goodness for Lawes' injury.... ;D

I feel that Launchbury is a little unlucky, but Ford has done nothing this season and the other teams have targetted his channel.

Wigglesworth over Care is an interesting one.

Sinkler and Haskel did well when thhey came on last weekend, so probably deserve a starting slot - although it remain to be seen if they can manage an impact over the longer distance...

Hartley was always coming back when fit, although I'm not sure he's any better than George (apart from his throw into the lineout)

Very nervous about the game, especially as it on Paddy's Day

Oh dear.

As Zooners says, 5th place in the table.

Unaccesptable given the pool of players that we have and the financial backing that the RFU provides....
