I know its all about personal opinions etc, but the first 8 songs are absolutely woeful!

That is the worst first hour of a gig I have ever, ever set eyes on.

Thank the lord for set 2

No PoW songs.  :(  And I thought the last tour was just a taster...  :-\

Seriously, I know I bang on far too much about new songs, and I know its a set list that moves chronologically backwards, but at what point did Rush sink to a low where the Anarchist opened the show, and where they play Far Cry, Monkey Business and OLV in succession!

Title: Re: Setlist

I actually think of the Rush songs I can put a name to, that would be my worst case scenario for a 3 song stretch

Just goes to make set 2 look even more stellar!
Title: Re: Setlist
Post by: Fishy on May 13, 2015, 13:10:59 pm
I think you're being a bit harsh...i actually dpn't mind...
Far Cry
The Main Monkey Business
One Little Victory

my problem is what comes after that lot..

Animate... ..awful awful song..just kills things stone dead
Roll The Bones (with celebrity rappers video)  just why  ?
Distant Early Warning..already beaten to death
Subdivisions..........   already beaten to death
Title: Re: Setlist
Post by: Jonners on May 13, 2015, 13:22:03 pm
Disagree 100%

While we all would love some out of the blue tracks, Sub and DEW are absolute classics in their armoury. They partially  rescue what is ultimately a very, very lightweight first half
Title: Re: Setlist
Post by: Fishy on May 13, 2015, 13:34:12 pm
I don't disagree that they are cracking songs but come on..just play something else...  Kid Gloves/Afterimage/AFTK/Something For Nothing...plenty of little gems out there...
Title: Re: Setlist
Post by: Matt2112 on May 13, 2015, 13:35:27 pm
Given it's actually PoW30 this year, just bang the whole of that in Set 1 - sorted.  (Fishy's "Except MR" post coming in 3...2...1... ;) )

Fans are getting older, need a wee break at some point. MR the ideal opportunity

As it stands, I could develop serious prostate issues, have my bladder replaced with a wooden egg, and drink 20 pints before hand, and still miss very little I liked

Would certainly include   Emotion Detector which they missed last year... but again Big Money/Marathon/Manhattan proj..all good songs but fairly well trodden live.. and of coure MR... absolute clunker..  where's the classics from HYF.. Open Secrets/Second Nature/Turn The Page...
Title: Re: Setlist

Yes we've heard 2112 waaay too many times. That album could have been represented by Bankok and Something For Nothing (and another from AFTK would probably fit - like the title track, for instance, or Cinderella Man)
So far, I think many agree it is a setlist of missed opportunities (great fun debating it though!)
Title: Re: Setlist
Post by: Jonners on May 13, 2015, 14:32:31 pm
I think if this was your last ever Rush show, which for many I imagine it will be, you would be a little disappointed to miss out on 2112!

Bit like Maiden not playing number of the Beast, or Ace of Spades by Motorhead

Just one of those songs you don't leave out
Title: Re: Setlist
Post by: Fishy on May 13, 2015, 14:37:01 pm
If this was my last concert i would rather take away the memory of them playing something either not played live before or not played for a good numbers of years.. 2112... ?..not bothered...

Musically quite excellent but feck me, Geddy's voice is ruined isn't it?
Seen quite a few clips from YouTube over the last few days and this seems to be a common theme.
As a fanboi it pains me to say this, but I suspect how bad Ged's voice has become would probably distract me from fully enjoying the show now.
That said, if I was tanked up I'd probably have a whale of a time.  ;D

its a great shame, but nothing lasts forever.

I still think his vocals were at their absolute peak (live anyway) on the GUP live release, really good performance

I imagine when they are mixing the obligatory live release there will be a few whinces and raised eyebrows

It's looking a bit dry to me.  Like he's forgotten to use conditioner.  It's looking a bit like Donald Trump's syrup.  It had a slightly wetter look in 2013. The fringe is too short too.  Looks like Dave Hill's fringe.

See also Coverdale, Stanley, etc etc, all superb in their time but painful now, maybe Ged should go the Britney Spears route and mime, don't think I would care as long as they were ripping it up musically.
Title: Re: Setlist

I'd be happy to listen to instrumental versions!

Glen Hughes still sounds pretty good - surprising, given the amount of drugs he's ingested.  That said, he did virtually nothing for a couple of decades, so there's that.

Just been reading on another Rush forum how NEP is triggering the wind chimes in Xanadu and Geddy is using his bass pedals to trigger a bass pedal run he used to play manually - well footually - If they're doing this in a song they used to play back in the good old live days, what are they doing on the rest?

I still find it hard to believe that one of my all-time heroes has gone down the 'rug' route. I've transferred my hero worship to the Gedster (until he has rhinoplasty :))).
Massive follicular faux pas by Mr Lifeson - whoever told him it was a good idea?  ???  Should have gone for the close-cropped look like Gilmour etc and retained some cred. Makes him look like Brucie ffs - especially when he starts giving Geddy some helpful advice with his vocals - "Higher!...... lower!!"

At the risk of being shot down in flames here and apologies if this has been pointed out before as being bl**din' obvious, but it took me a couple of looks at the setlist to realise it goes in order from the most recent studio album to the earliest. Don't remember any artist choosing a setlist this way before and possibly another hint  that it is the very last tour.

Still, think a couple of old guys pulling off the double necks together looks pretty cool.  8)

Some belting songs on the 4 that they've skipped. If they could have added:

Test For Echo or Driven
Red Tide
Lock & Key
Emotion Detector

I'd say that was a complete set list - hell, those songs I've picked could have really brightened up that dull first set!

Some belting songs on the 4 that they've skipped. If they could have added:

Test For Echo or Driven
Red Tide
Lock & Key
Emotion Detector

I'd say that was a complete set list - hell, those songs I've picked could have really brightened up that dull first set!
Agree - great choices

That's my fave of the setlists. The extra song in Natural Science takes the second half to an increased level of awsomeness. 8)

Looks like they're rotating 3 setlists then. Perfect for a 9 date Euro tour ;)

To hear Losing It live would be special indeed - and pretty comfortable for Geddy's voice too, I guess.

Back to Set A last night.  And 3 set rotation confirmed by Alex in the Classic Rock interview:-

"We've got three sets - A, B, C - which we'll be rotating throughout the tour."

Prefer Audrey Solomon to be honest, in the leather trousers.

Last tour was definitely the time to do Losing It if they were ever planning to...I'd rather they left it out than played to a backing track of violin...

Listened to a recording of one of the shows for the first time last night while cycle training, so basically the first set

Its not great is it! its so poor, it makes Roll The Bones sound almost like a classic. Vocals are indeed terrible, but not as bad as I expected, which I guess is a bonus.

What I find interesting though is analysing the songs as you move backwards in time though, and my conclusion is that the new songs are just so messy/cramped for room/dull. Loud and rocky for loudness sake. Unfortunately T4E is ignored, but then at least with RTB you get a quirky, structured song with some space and room to manoeuvre, and thankfully DEW rescues things.

Will give set 2 a go tonight, which I am very much looking forward to,  but I think if I was lucky enough to see one of these final shows, I would probably sit out most of set 1
