Here's the first rumour I've seen

If that's the set list I'll be one happy hector.

That would be a good serlist but it's an awful lot of new/never played/hardly ever played stuff. I'm not sure they'd want to learn all of that. Also, JL doesn't feel like a set closing track to me.

I saw that earlier and thought it was as plausible as it was implausible. I still don't think they'll do the whole of CA though.

Not sure about the encore, a bit predictable and would be nice to have something different.

I don't know why I'm mildly excited about finding out the setlist as there is usually a sense of slight disappointment when I do find out.

Hope the losing it choice is correct,JL a strange choice for a set ender.

I must admit, I thought the set-list was just wishful thinking...

Hmmm interesting setlist but Alex hinted below that they are not playing the full album.

Also the tourbook artwork suggests they are playing more than a couple from Signals....

This seems to be the best chance of getting the true American set list first. Hopefully some photos too. Ahh the wonders of modern technology. If it'll work ok!

Rush's Clockwork Angels Tour Begins - Set List Revealed LIVE
Rush Clockwork Angels Tour

It's been 433 days since Rush last took the stage, closing out their 2010-2011 Time Machine Tour last July at The Gorge outside of Seattle, Washington. Tonight, the band returns to open up their Clockwork Angels World Tour at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire.

The tour, currently set to encompass 34 dates during 2012, will hit spots around the U.S. and Canada. After an extended break, Rush will resume the tour in May of 2013 to play across Europe for 10 dates. More concert dates have been promised from the band, but will likely not be announced until the end of the 2012 leg. For a complete tour date listing, click HERE.

Excitement and debate has been raging in the online Rush community over the set list for the tour. Rush's announcement that they'll be touring with a string ensemble, a first for the band, only further whet the appetite of fans and fueled the speculation about the potential for old songs to reappear - or make their debut - under the live setting.

As I will personally be in attendance at the tour opener in Manchester, I plan on posting the set list, LIVE as it happens on this page. I will also be posting pictures and pre-concert news right here as the day progresses (technological snafus not withstanding). So stay tuned to this page for updates throughout the day.

And for those who are also going to the show tonight, have a great time!

Latest ''Rumour''....YYZ (with strings) + SUBDIVISIONS + TERRITORIES (with strings) heard in soundcheck  ;)
Subdivisions was played last so could be set opener?? Would tie in with Tour book Signals theme?
Title: Re: Clockwork Angels Tour.
Post by: BaldiePete on September 07, 2012, 23:31:10 pm
Subdivisions is too keyboardy to be the opener
Title: Re: Clockwork Angels Tour.
Post by: Nïckslïkk2112 on September 07, 2012, 23:31:32 pm
Subdivisions as opener? Could work, but last couple of tours it's been a blessed relief when it's started up after a spell of complete and utter dreck...

I've just re-read that first set.

Only 2 songs from the previous tour and 5 songs not played for 18 years plus.

And they're probably going to follow it up with (Caravan aside) a brand new album's worth of material.

Credit to Rush for mixing it up.

That setlist is pretty awful. I suppose there are songs they've not played in a while but they've not been played for good reason................................they're not very good.

Starting off with Subdivisions is an odd choice, a fans favourite but still pretty slow in tempo. Four songs from Power Windows! Jesus wept! The two worst songs on GUP. Why Force Ten when there are far better songs from HYF worth playing. Bravado - one of the dullest Rush songs ever written. Three feckin drum solos!!!

The only highlight in that setlist is The Analog Kid.

As a fan of Power Windows I'm fairly ecstatic at that setlist tbh. Analog Kid too...Jesus wept. Regretting not going to Canada now but hey it's not too late to change my mind.

Wow. I'm all pumped and ready for my concert now. I never would have expected the 80s setlist we got and... I really like it. I have my irks like Body Electric (does ANYONE like that song enough to make it a live request?) and Carnies... but wow. Just wow. This will be unlike any Rush concert I have ever seen and in the end THAT is worth the price of admission. I've seen the classics played in R30. I've seen Moving Pictures played from start to finish. I saw Entre Nous and Presto when I never thought we'd EVER hear them live.

But this? This is an entire setlist filled with things which I could only listen to bootlegs which were recorded when I was a wee babyface primary schooler. I never dreamed I'd see Manhattan Project or Grand Designs live.

Could I wish for more? Sure. Losing It, Vapor Trail and Available Light are songs that NO ONE has heard live and ones which I'm sure many would like to hear. But I live in this one of many possible worlds and I think it may not be the best but it's pretty damn close. Certainly better than I could have hoped.

Delighted with the set-list - only real disappointment is Red Sector A - ideally less Clockwork Angels but that was never going to happen.  I actually like The Body Electric.

Shame the strings didn't make an earlier entrance. Songs like Grand Designs, Big Money and Force 10 could have easily been arranged to include them.

At least there was only one track from S&A  ;)

I am surprised at the 80's loaded set, but commend them for thinking outside the box and making some brave choices. I'd have preferred some more 70's stuff and less 80's personally, but i'm looking forward to next years show now. Happy with the CA stuff too, as I like the album a lot.

Given that more of a proportion of the UK fanbase are 70s veterans - probably not well at all. I'm astonished they're not playing 2112 in 2012.

Personally though I'm very impressed with the set- a brave and interesting departure. 2.5 hours into the show before anything from pre 1982 appears, that's a first for them anyway!
Given the years of petitioning I can't believe they are playing 4 from Power Windows, none of which are Middletown Dreams!
I guess we'll find out soon if their will be some setlist rotation, maybe among the new songs?

PS- How badly wrong was the setlist in post #1 ;)

Love the set list.

Disappointed there's not more 70's choons, but not as disappointed as I would be hearing Geddy murder them trying to sing them - just not feasible for him to sing the 70's tunes night after night anymore.

There's a lot of songs here I'm really looking forward to hearing - that includes all the CA stuff.

Well said  ;) some of the song choices are very surprising but to me i would rather them play songs ive never heard ''live'' before than trott out the usual standards i kinda get the impression from other forums theres 2 setlists doing the rounds so lets not get too upset just yet!!! they might just surprise us yet.......

Wow...that is a brave and inspired first set loaded with some cracking songs from the mid 80s era which is so refreshing as the last few tours have seen the same old 'favourites' played time and again.  They will always include SoR, TS and YYZ as they are songs that define Rush to a vast majority of people and I have no problem with that at all.  As I love CA I'm delighted to see that it takes up most of the second set . My only problem is having to wait until next May to see it .... :-)

I'm sorry Ron, but I totally disagree with you.

I didn't post directly onto my wall, out of consideration, but it's a pretty big ask to expect people not to enjoy and share their experience/drama/whatever with likeminded people at the risk of upsetting someone by giving away song title or two.

The onus of remaining unspoiled must rest squarely with the individual wishing to remain so.

I have managed to share everything you mention with others who have DECIDED to view the setlist only. I can't imagine how i'd feel if I clicked on a friends facebook wall to read their daily public comments and saw a full setlist if I was trying to keep the setlist a personal surprise. I cannot see how posting it in a public place for all to see when you know you will have a fair few Rush-minded friends dropping by is any more considerate than putting a setlist on a billboard and sticking it in all your friends front garden to see when they get up in the morning to go to work or for that matter posting it in Rush News.

With this in mind, and until otherwise advised, please keep all references to the set-list whether confirmed or rumour in the 'Spoilers' forum of the board.

So Kerrang shouldn't publish a review of a gig in case a reader wants to remain unspoiled?  or  Planet Rock shouldn't discuss a gig in case a listener doesn't want to know?

Because TNMS decided years ago that in fairness to members requests we'd steer clear of spoilers and stick them all in the one place.

That's easy to do on a forum where there are different boards for different topics and is moderated.

Facebook etc are totally different animals, as you know.

As I said, I didn't post publicly as I am aware of the ramifications, but I would find it very hard to criticise someone who did.

I honestly can't imagine anyone who is an avid Twitter/Facebook user would have been at the gig last night and thought "Really want to share how excited I am that they played Territories,  but better not just in case I spoil it for someone else".  And if there were such people, I feel sorrier for them.

Life's too short to go tippy toeing about being scared of upsetting people who expect YOU to make sure THEY don't find something out.  :-\

My own feeling is that it would be impossible to be unspoiled these days cause I'm an avid follower of Facebook news feed and Twitter. I don't even try these days. Back in the days before social media, it was easier. Just don't read magazines and don't talk to anyone who's seen the show already.

On seeing the setlist last night I did feel a small pang. Imagine your joy if you HAD made it to the show without knowing the setlist and all those great songs (yes, those great songs from the 80s) came rolling out. Especially that opener - my fave!

As the majority of the setlist leaves me cold I've decided that I'll be air celloing rather than air guitaring during the upcoming tour. I hope that Lee, Lifeson and Peart are suitably aware of my dutiful protest.

Can't really see that happening mate, other than perhaps alternating 2 songs (one one night, and the other the next) like they did on one of the recent tours.

I'm actually quite surprised at the stuff they left off Clockwork Angels.

BU2B is a better song than Caravan, and I would have thought they'd want to give Seven Cities of Gold an airing ahead of Wish Them Well.

Just been told that there are going to be 5 different songs at Sundays show...

Body Electric <-> Middletown Dreams
Bravado <-> The Pass
Carnies <-> 7 Cities of Gold
Manhattan Project <-> Dreamline
TSOR <-> 2112

These will be swapped every 2nd night, at least for the first couple of weeks...

Well I'm off to the Virginia show tomorrow night so we'll see what they do. Would've preferred Middletown Dreams over Body Electric. Happy to see Bravado go. Prefer 7 Cities over Carnies. Not fussed about the other changes :) And it's a good job we got the storms today and not tomorrow!

It hasn't happened yet....

(they have alternated set lists in the past for early parts of tours, they then tend to stick with the songs they've enjoyed best.

Anyway it's a long time til the tour arrives here so who knows)...

It's a better song than Manhattan Project, but I agree it's a bit over familiar and given that I've only heard the Power Windows song live once I'd probably prefer it.

Also I presume MP will utilise the strings, so if they are going to swap it you'd think it would be for another orchestral track like Second Nature or Nobody's Hero etc...

A Rush gig without TSOR will be slightly unusual, I would have preferred if they had dropped Tom Sawyer but still a brave decision to drop on of those two. The changes to the setlist certainly improve things for me, Middletown Dreams is one of the few decent songs on Power Windows, The Pass is as good as Bravado is bad and Seven Cities is one of my favourites from CA. Having said all that I still think well get a slightly different setlist from the two already played when they come over next year.

So did Dreamline utilise the string section?

Nice to see them mix it up quite a bit from night to night. They should really have done this before given the space provided by a 3 hour show.
3 short drumsolos instead of 1 longer one is an interesting development. Makes it easier for Neil I guess but means a truncated piss break for many...

Depends how long they are.  If Neil has a quick couple of minutes bash at the end of a couple of songs that is fine but if its 10 minutes each time then it is a bit silly.

Listening to a boot of the show, there's about 2.5 mins in Where's My Thing, 40 seconds in Headlong Flight and 2.5 mins as a standalone solo between Manhattan Project and Red Sector A. The total is actually shorter than on recent tours.

It's quiet a "brave" set this time out: LOADS of new stuff and a bunch of what amount to rarities. For a regular Rush tour goer and longer term fan a real treat but a newbie might be quite shocked. Mind you, the newbie might be a newbie because of CA I guess, so they'd be well chuffed.
As ever there'll be the pissed off and the well happy and all points in between and there'll be the never ending arguments  ::). Until the shows when all who go are completely blown away.

If I miss Middletown dreams though, its fair to say I will be gutted, as it is my favourite Rush song and had assumed that chance had passed me by

Interesting to compare the latest setlists with the last LP tour that we saw, Snakes and Arrows. In 2007 the songs came from the decades as follows:-
1970s - 2 songs
1980s - 13
1990s - 1
2000s - 2
New songs - 9

And in 2012 it's:-.
1970s - 1 or 2
1980s - 12 or 11
1990s - 2
2000s - 1
New songs - 10 (including Alex solo).

So looking at the new show on those terms it's not that radically different!

I'm with you. TSOR will always have a special place in my heart, and all that - but I'd much rather hear some different stuff for a change. I could live without the reggae Working Man as well.

Gutted that Marathon got iced. I thought that was smoking last tour.

That sums up may way of thinking too.

Personally, and having seen Rush on every tour they have done in the UK, I am quite happy for the classics to be shelved so I can experience songs that haven't been played for a while.

The classics will all be back for R40 anyway.

Just got back from Chicago. Turns out they played Spirit of Radio instead of Working Man tonight and then Tom Sawyer and 2112 as the encore.

Blow me that was a fecking good show. The crowd just electrified once YYZ started and didn't stop bouncing, screaming and raising their hands to the sky until 2112 was over. Strings added quite a lot to the experience too, they actually made Red Sector A tolerable for the first time in decades.

Carnies was also amazing live. Neither my wife nor I were fond of the song until tonight. Now we have promised to give it another chance. She went berserk for Force 10, Manhattan Project and Analog Kid. I fanboied it up as always.

This is one tour no one should miss. All the oddities for the old fans make it unmissable and for casuals and those who hate the synth era then the final 30 minutes when they bust out the classics will make up for it. I've never seen a crowd so energized and I am fairly sure it was because they had been deprived YYZ, SOR, Tom Sawyer and 2112 until the very last moments of the gig. It paid off. In spades.

We were at the Chicago show, too - I've never experienced an atmosphere like that at a Rush show before - it was brilliant.  Loved the string ensemble, and how they got into the music.  Thought the new material got a great reaction, too, particularly Headlong Flight.  No wasted time with videos between songs, which is also good.  Great to hear so much from the 80s again, too, and a couple of songs I'd never seen them play before (Grand Designs, Body Electric).  Analog Kid rocked.  No real low points in the set list for me, unlike the last couple of tours.  Fantastic show.

ETA: Had to laugh at Alex playing guitar with a stick Neil failed to catch  ;D

You're not half wrong there, though. That gig was on fire to the point of which I still don't think I've fully recovered from it.

The wifey told me this morning that she'd been telling her coworkers that the gig was better than her wedding night. That says volumes about how fecking brilliant the gig was and how fecking lucky I am to have her as a wife.

Indeed, I personally did 3. 5 hours non stop on my own wedding night, with no need for a break or videos, and I threw in a couple of solos as well.....

Its says more about how crap a shag you are.  :P

Bah! You're comparing apples to oranges, mates. You try doing the long distance relationship thing for 3 years and then try compare the shags when you saw one another once every six months to the ones you have when you live together. Simply cannot be done!

I hear you, Brother.  Did the long distance thing for 9 years and then got married.  I do find that giving up wanking helps though.  ;D

It's those little everyday curses that you forget in wedded bliss. Thank goodness for good women and good times!

Fine with me, at least as long as they keep playing the reggae part.

You're not half wrong there, though. That gig was on fire to the point of which I still don't think I've fully recovered from it.

Same here.  I haven't enjoyed a gig that much in a long time  ;D

This guy's in the process of posting vids of almost the whole show from Columbus (five songs missing, apparently).  He's done a pretty amazing job with the first half, although it does make me wonder how anyone can really enjoy a gig if they're standing still, holding a camera all the time . . .

I was in the second row at Manchester for the Time Machine Tour and the guy stood on my left had three cameras/ i-phones and all he did throughout the whole concert was stand there dead still filming.

He didn't really appear to be enjoying himself either  :o

I do wish they would take these people to one side and force them to watch their phones being fed into a mobile crusher, afterwards feel free to take them into the car park and shoot them in both knees - I'm getting sick to death of watching concerts through a sea of feckin phones.

Tour up and running again last night in Bridgeport.
No surprises after the break, Set A was played. Comments I've read from the gig include a lot of complaints about the sound  :(
