Title: Food/drink that makes you puke
Post by: spudley on July 06, 2012, 23:05:30 pm
Not sure if there's a thread for this already... But I'm starting a new one.

I HATE tea. Even the smell makes my tummy churn.
Also, the thought of pea soup makes me retch.

Liver.

It was the cruellest joke in our house - our mum cooks a really good liver. She coats it and shallow fries it and serves it with potatoes, fried onions and creamed peas. It smells amazing! But the taste, texture - yech!

It has probably been more than 20 years since I even attempted to eat it. I wonder if I would like it now? There are some things I couldn't bear to eat when I was younger which I really enjoy now. Maybe liver would be one of them?

Liver.

Oh God yeah, as Tom says absolutely minging - and lets not forget that it is an excretory organ so the reason for it's hideous taste is all the toxins it has to deal with.

I have to say, that in my case any internal organs ie kidneys, heart etc are strictly off my menu.

Liver is a good source of iron and unless you eat industrial quantities of it the agregated toxins that are filtered trough it have a negligable effect unless you live near Chernobyl

Fish cakes, mashed potato (like it when it's 50/50 with swede though), quiche, cheese pie and pigs trotters. Other than that, I'm pretty much an eating machine.

Agreed but I'm sure that it contributes to it's horrendous strong taste! ;)

I'm actually not overly keen on eggs at least in their purist form. I'm ok with omelettes as I can flavour it with other ingredients and I can just about get scrambled egg down me at a push if coverred in brown sauce. But boiled, fried poached etc no thanks. When you think about it - you are eating a chicken's period!

Anything with a rich cheese sauce makes me retch.

And after a particularly horrendus evening when I was 17 involving downing two bottles of the stuff and spending the rest of the night bringing it all back up again I cannot stand red wine. Even the smell of it makes me gag

Coriander, can't stand the smell or the taste.

The sheer stench of chips & curry sauce (a worlplace favourite it seems) makes me heave.

Pernod for me.  A similar experience at one of those 6th form house parties.  Never touched a drop since 1982.  I can smell it at 50 paces ....... eugh  :P

Foodwise - I can abide anything except mushrooms.  Problem is the rest of the family love 'em  :-\

Grapefruit - tastes like witch piss.

Mustard - tastes like witch phlegm.

Whiskey - I spent three days in hospital and a week off work with a fractured eye socket about 18 years ago due to a nasty accident after being very, very silly with that drink.  I had a fall and was found unconcious, my face spattered with blood as if in a slasher film. The left side of my face made the Elephant Man look like Brad Pitt and it took nearly a month for it to get back to normal (cue "It still hasn't" gags  ::)  ;) ).  Hence I've had a powerful psychological aversion to it since and I gag even at the thought of its aroma. I was actually extremely lucky to escape without any permanent damage.  It's not big or clever, kids. *shudder*  :-\

Our school dinners were actually quite nice but one day they served some substance  masquerading as  mashed potato. It was Cadburys Smash I believe, or possibly a cheaper even more revolting version.
Think that was one of the worst days of my school life.

Cider. Completely toxic to me after serious abuse of it in my 20's. Once a year or so I put a half of cider in front of me and see if I can stomach it. The reaction is always the same. It appears my stomach has a memory independant of what the drink actually tastes like.

Any wine that isn't a decent red, liver, boiled parsnips (love 'em roasted though), tartare sauce (tastes good but gives me chronic indigestion even in small amounts) and of course grapefruit.

I remember being haunted by the primary school dinner of cheese pie, mashed potato and tinned tomatoes. It must have had an affect on me, as the tomatoes are the only item of the three that I'll touch to this day.

I was once forced by a dinner lady to eat instant mashed potato... Think that was my worst childhood memory.

Find it hard to believe that no one has mentioned mashed swede, forced to eat it at junior school, the smell/texture/taste blagh. Will forever mingle with the smell of disifected school halls! Also tripe! What sick individual thought that was a good idea?

Love it mate! Also when it's mixed half and half with mashed potato, but I don't like mashed potato much on its own.

One food phobia I've had since I was very young is that fruity malt loaf stuff - my mum gave me some when I was about eight and I've never touched it since. Disgusting. The other things I could never touch are tinned peas and (especially) mushy peas.

Something in Cheap vodka turns me into a puking zombie. I can stand (just about) but can't speak and every sound seems like its been shunted through the rusty innards of the BBC Radiophonic workshop and takes 5 times longer than normal to reach my ears My brain just shuts down for a couple of hours and I could almost fill an olympic sized swimming pool with vomit after which I pass out.....not good!

Met up with a couple of chums I hadn't seen for a year or two last night, and we went into a microbrewery / micropub in Ashby. I asked for something vaguely like lager, and was provided with a half of something called "Lukas". It was encouragingly clear, but smelled like a public urinal and tasted like Marmite.  Not good.

Celery.  How to ruin a salad.

I thought salad was ruined just by being salad...

Celery certainly makes it worse. Although I used to do a nice dish of King Prawns with Creme Fraiche, celery and grain mustard.

Just don't EVER give me Beetroot - although it improves the colour of your vomit.

I love beetroot, one of my favourite treats as a kid was beetroot sandwiches. As for celery - I love the flavour but the experience of eating actual celery is not one I look forward to.

Ate too much beetroot once and my wee went bright pink. I was very concerned that I was suffering from internal bleeding, for a few seconds.

Beans anywhere near a fry up, especially near a fried egg ...boak .

Tuna Mayonnaise , the smell , texture , look and taste is truly awful.

Marzipan, get it to f*%$...
