Title: "Shit" tickets
Post by: zoony on May 16, 2012, 19:15:50 pm
Have to admit that I'm surprised at the amount of people posting on here today saying that most of the tickets on sale today were either shit, rubbish, pish, crap etc. What constitutes a "shit" ticket then? I suppose if you've had tickets right at the front before, then obviously ones further back aren't as good, but it seems a bit unfair to describe them as shit! Me and Ian have got block A row t for Birmingham, and Block B1 row h for London today, and they're the best we've ever had, but I wouldn't say for one minute that any of the tickets we've had for RUSH previously have been shit, and we've always been grateful for what we got, and really enjoyed the experience every time.

My guess would be anything that is not front row (VT needs to let us in on his secret strategy!). I can understand if you're up in the gods or right at the back or to the extreme ends of the stage where you get no view at all. Over the year's I've sat in various locations and I can't say any of them were crap as I had no obstructions other than people's heads. Mind you with all the bald head's at next year's gigs I'll need sunglasses to avoid the glare :P

Mainly the ''shit'' tickets are those at the back, but for me I'm quite picky because I'm a short arse. No point me getting anything past the first few rows unless they're aisle tickets (so I can can move slightly out a step or 2 to look past heads) 'cos I won't see shit.

If you are going to pay 82.50 for a ticket offered in side blocks half way back, is my idea of shit..................or should it be shafted ;D

I have done front row etc and this time was just looking for something half decent but must have missed them at the MEN.

 :)

I saw Rush at the NEC (as it was then) on the last night of the R30 Tour and was at the back of the downstairs seating.

A 'shit' ticket? Well, I enjoyed the gig just as much as the other 5 U.K. shows and it was good to see the 'show' in all of it's glory, so I'd have to say no.

Next year at the MEN I'm just in front of the mixing desk - Is this a 'shit' ticket? Not to me, as I'm looking forward to seeing a Rush show from a location that I've not been before.

Shit tkts for me refers to the way arenas work out how to charge for floor tkts when they fill them with seats.. They seem to use a simple cut off row to change a tkts value but on a flat floor this is very suspect..

There are few if any arenas with a raked floor. Arenas seldom offset the seating.

So anything further back than where the stage height +artist has a chance of being blocked by an average height punter should be a cheap seat. That is probably about rows 1 -15 yet its generally a hell of a lot further back before a seat becomes a lower cost.

I'm sorry ive got to respond.
The pre sale was ********** to say the least
The best i got at the O2 was A2 row V £83 then came blocks at the back 104 , 105 etc to block 109.

im a family man earning good money but i cannot justify these prices for over a year ahead.

Lots of you who did all the gigs in years gone by had first 10 row seats. Even i got front 15 rows without issue.

WHAT IS GOING ON??

Got to agree with this. I was ready at 09:00 and sprung into action. Within seconds I had tickets in A Block for MEN when ever I tried to progress the site refused. Did this three times. By the time I'd started again. Literally by about 2 or 3 minutes past nine all that was being offered is the seats in the blocks right at the very back of the arena.

There must be some exceptional tickets being released in the next couple of days. Fingers crossed  ::)

a shit ticket.....an hour of half @ villa park took some beating....... Seriously well chuffed with our efforts today,a little over priced but most bands are making all their money with tours .....seems Rush are no exception,.fans pay

A shit ticket for me is one where (a) I am surrounded by boring feckers, (b) the sound is shite and (c) I can't see shit.
Today ended up being a result. For Sheffield, Brum and Manc I am (a) surrounded by TNMSers, (b) on the tier so the sound will be good and (c) I will see everything.

I've never had a shit ticket when I've seen Rush.  It's true I wish I could've been closer at some of the gigs but at least I've been able to hear the band and see the band at every gig I've been to.

Cant remember the year or the name of the tour before R30 (unless I look it up  ;)), but we were about 3/4 of the way back, up the side at Wembley and the sound you heard was a good 1/2 second behind what you sere seeing. Very off-putting  ::)

My tickets aren't bad and now I have them I am fairly happy. Problem is as a couple of others have said is that being not the tallest person its sh*t if you pay £75 for a ticket and spend the whole time looking at the back of someones head. Would be more than happy in the second block back if I could actually see anything. Unless I'm in the first 10 - 12 rows I really struggle.

My gripe this time was the struggle to try and get tickets, it was soul destroying.

I've done my fair share of moaning over the last 24 hours about 'shit' tickets but I think Zoony's right (and he's a member of the Stourbridge/Kidderminster ubermeisters so he must be given credit!).

I guess the 'worst' rush ticket I ever got was for the Stafford Bingley Hall on the 'semi-spheres' dates back in September 1979. I was 14 and it was the first real gig I'd even gone to (ever been allowed to go to). I was completely overawed and got stuck half way back on a huge flat floor. I don't think I saw much at all. That should have been the shittiest ticket of my Rush-going career but was it? Feck no! - Still the best gig of my life I guess.

Maybe it's time to stop getting worried/annoyed and to start getting excited...

Post by: Neilyyz on May 17, 2012, 15:48:16 pm
I agree with Zoony completely on this one. I have noted that the definition of a "Shit" ticket seems to be from people who have had front row or as close as front row tickets in the past. Stafford Bingley Hall was my first Rush gig as a 15 year old boy. I was in a similar situation to Tim W in that my parents were worried about me travelling from Newcastle on me own. I only got the nod because me "Big brother" was going as well.
Now that was a "Shit" ticket. I was a lot smaller than I am now (both height and width) and cant recall seeing much at all. I do recall getting crushed a lot though. However I came out of the gig thinking it was the greatest show I had ever seen because it was my first Rush experience despite the "shit ticket".
I missed the start of the presale for the last tour as I could not get away from work. I ended up getting so called "shit tickets" for 5 of the UK shows. Brum was the only one I missed. The closest tickets were block 103 row H at Manc. I was absolutely gutted and actually lost sleep when I read on here about some of the cracking tickets people had, thinking about what might have been had I not had to go to work that day. However as the months approached I spent a lot of time trawling e bay and the likes and occasionally popping back to the respective venues websites and ended up getting 9th row centre for Sheff and 3rd row Geds side for Newc, and 8th row centre for Glasgow. I then had to sell my "shit tickets" and actually made a loss on some of them. I hope that the people who bought them from me enjoyed the shows from their "shit seats".
I suppose its like everything else in life in that once you have a taste of the best anything less has a slight bitter taste. I am not accusing anyone on here of being greedy/selfish as I put myself in the same boat. Its human nature and I am as guilty as the next man/woman.

Just a quick note on the pre sale, I can say without doubt that the tickets you got were pure pot luck. I was sitting in front of my computer and had the laptop next to me as a standby switched on and ready for 9am. As far as I am concerned the website opened at different times on different peoples computers and I have evidence to show this. It is all down to your download speed, how far you are away from the exchange, the speed of your computer etc. When I was waiting for the countdown, "Ticketlines" countdown on my screen was 11 seconds ahead of the countown on my laptop. Despite numerous refreshes of the website in the 20 minutes leading up to 9am my laptop countdown was 11 seconds slower than my main computer. What is to say that I was not 20 seconds slower than VT or anyone else who managed to bag "none shit tickets". How do we know I was not ahead of everyone else. I know that where I live I am a long way from the exchange and have a very poor download speed of less than 2 meg but It would appear that on this occasion I may have been ahead of some peoples computers by a few seconds as I got some good tickets this time.
Block 115 row 7 Manc
Block A2  row 2 Lond
Block C row 2 Sheff
Block GG row 4 Glasg
Block 216 row 3 Berlin.

:)

This is true.

Total pot luck.

On our computer at 09.00 the 'Ticketline' site said 1 minute to go on the countdown.

Mrs Lyth (who was doing the buying in my absence) thought "feck that, it's Nine O'clock" and hit the LG Arena button and was able to get front row tickets straight away.

On the other hand, my brother went on at bang on 09.00 (on both his computer and the countdown) for Manchester tickets, hit the MEN button and Arena A and everything froze. He ended up getting tickets for halfway back.

A total lottery.

I was timing it against the clock on this site.

http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.co.uk/time-zone/europe/uk/time/

Sales went live at 9:00:00 precisely, when the counter on Ticketline was still at something like 50 seconds. I also have a 50Mb download/5Mb upload Virgin cable connection which means I got in and got a response from them very quickly.

Agreed Mick W the whole pre sale thing has been a complete shambles. The Berlin pre sale was announced 2 hours before it started and the UK wasn't much better.
However a good post from BaldiePete regarding GMT has shed some light on how some are "luckier" than others shall we say.
Have I got this right when I say that the pre sale started at 9am GMT which was actually before the Ticketline counter had reached zero as it was out of sinc with GMT.

I suppose it depends on your expectations. I had expected that if I went for the "fanclub" pre-sale the very second that it opened (yes, I do have fast broadband and no, I didn't wait for the timer on my screen to reach zero) that I would have at least a reasonable chance of getting a ticket somewhere in the first few rows. I mean, there can't be that many of us, can there? If that didn't work out then I think something a little further back in the front blocks would have been the minimum. (Having actually got a good ticket in my basket I also think it would have been reasonable to expect to be able to pay for it, but that's another thing.) So, to get through the whole frustrating/depressing day with zilch until I saw a link to theticketfactory posted by someone else, which got me a ticket about 40 rows back was definitely disappointing and below expectations.

I try not to jealous of those who repeatedly get right near the front for multiple gigs, but it's difficult ...

Really?  :(  Not just when he's spinning himself around during the drum solo?  ::)

So, in other words, as a long-standing and "valued" "Priority" customer of O2, who has jumped through all the pre-sale hoops, and shelled out nearly 90 fucking quid, at the end of it all I'm rewarded with a prime view of a stageside mixing desk.

I wouldn't worry mate, I was in block 101 last year, front row, exactly where I've pin-pointed below. The chart is slightly wrong as the stage was in front of my position, I was in line with Row A on the floor basically and had a fantastic view of the entire stage (no PA in the way).

Yep, that interactive map is spot on! If ya zoom in you can see your exact seat location too ;) (really wish this was available for all venues at all times, would make things so much easier).

Ah!  Thanks a lot you gents!  Yes, it actually looks to be comfortably in front of the stage, in fact tending toward block 111.  It's a great seat.  False alarm!  O2, I love you!  Cheers, you've all made my morning.  8)

You need to get the same seat as last time so everyone can watch you air-drumming again.  ;D

Just looked at the O2 seat map - I'm in block 112 (the very first section) seat 385 and from the map it looks a bit too "side-on" to me.  :-\  Any London O2 seating experts know this to be the case..?

How do you get to look at the O2 seat map then Matt? Have you got a link, as I'd like to have a look at that please mate.

Just seen the link that NeilP posted now, but it only shows seats that are still available. According to that link now, blocks 103 and 110 are now the closest left available.

D'ya know what Rob, we've had our disagreements over the years but  I have to say that I admire your "glass half full" attitude to this. When i was a 14 year old first getting into Rush, I'd never have believed I'd still be fighting to get tickets to see them over 35 years later. You're right, we should just feel privileged to be along for the ride and the rest is just noise.

Lol, yes, it makes a change for us to agree on something mate  ;). Maybe if I'd got tickets right at the front when I first saw RUSH back in '83, I might have felt different, but I've always ended up about halfway or slightly closer, but have always had the most amazing time at all of the 9 RUSH concerts I've been to.

Ah, cheers mate. :) I'm a few rows further up and 3 seats to the left of that, as you look at the stage.  That'll do.  8)

My guess would be anything that is not front row (VT needs to let us in on his secret strategy!).

There is no secret but nobody believes me. ::)

Just plain luck and the ability to be sat waiting online at the right time. I was logged into my account and was ready and waiting for 9.00 on the button but I dont call that a secret strategy.

I ended up with 2 x front row tickets for Manchester and Sheffield and 2 more 2nd row tickets for Sheffield for my brother and nephew.

This is how I got front row for the last tour too.

Front row in 2004 was courtesy of Mr Gilray. :)

I hope there isn't another 6 foor gap between front row and second row at Manchester again. WTF was this'll all about last year?  Talk about an atmosphere killer.
