Got home this evening to find that one of my cousins has been diagnosed with that petty, ugly disease cancer. Don't know anything more than that it's big and in his chest. He's only 22

I'm starting to see everything that's happened to me over the last 9 months as a test of character, and I think I'm doing quite well.

Wendy's 48 year old brother Keith had an accident at work this morning, and has badly damaged his thumb. They said if he'd have been closer to retirement age, they'd have probably amputated it, but have give him some painkillers and anti biotics, and will get the specialist to see him on monday.

Upset of today and last night was over doing - it on the dackery's and blowing chunks
as I lie on the carpet of that most prestigious of venues ,'Ronnie Scotts',... :-[ :-[ :-[

I think I may have put the 'rock  'n' roll 'into jazz !

Billy Cobham was NOT amused, ( I did however get a photo of myself with him and also
he kindly signed a Mahavishnu Orchestra album  8) 8) 8) ).

Thank heavens that most stalwart of TNMSers and good friend 'Bisto' was at hand to
care for my ailing situation,..   Bloody ace gig, all the same,...  8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

The lyrics to that fine song.. The Stars Look Down might mean a bit more to you lately Richard? :-\

It was indeed...in fact I'd go so far as to say it was the best musical performance I've seen in my 49 years.... simply wonderful to behold in such an intimate and sophisticated venue and at such close quarters. I fancy either one of us could have played keyboards without leaning over from our table.
well....I say play.....hmmm

In defence of the Bearded Crusader we were both already very well lubricated before the Daiquaries arrived and then, as you do, we had far too many for our own good. Luckily for me I had the foresight to develop a substantial layer of protective winter blubber which saved me from joining Dan in adding a splash more colour to the evening. Comparitively speaking, he is built like the proverbial racing greyhound to my toothless walrus. Mixing drinks the way we did is never a good idea and despite him having the soul of a bon vivant and spirit of Lord Flashheart too much excess is likely to render him Rowley Birkin QC on the odd occassion..... to be honest I'm amazed it doesn't happen more frequently!

I think he might have to go back incognito for the next few years until the memory (and carpet stain) fades. When you look like Billy Gibbons in medieval smart/casual finery you don't exactly blend in with us 'normal' looking stiffs....besides which we did rather draw attention to ourselves throughout the evening due to our frequent and rather too enthusiastic displays of appreciation, however well deserved. The audience were obviously far too cultured, cool and so......ber....spoiled by years of watching superlative musicians chucking out impossibly good sets like confetti as, much to my bewilderment and disgust, the response veered from mild enthusiasm to warm appreciation.  Well I'm sorry, I may be a  Metalhead rather than Jazzhead and I was squiffier than good taste and decorum allows in such a venarable and revered establishment but I know an amazing gig when I see one! I have never seen such an incredible display of musicianship....hypnotic, latin and carribean rythms, time changes galore, fluid, syncopated, smooth and yet tight as a gnat's chuff. Add to that an unparralled view and crystal clear sound, each instrument perfectly separated and distinct yet blending together perfectly ....no feedback or distortion...a seemingly effortless union of 6 musicians at the top of their game...imagine the best of Mahavishnu, Weather Report, Return To Forever and Brand X with a hint of Santana and Tommy Bolin thrown in and you're almost there. The only thing that could have made this a perfect 10 for me would have been a real brass section instead of keys but that would be the meanest of quibbles! Honestly the playing was on another level...... as if they were but a conduit for the Gods....there was not a beat missed nor a note misplaced or superfluous and everyone played in perfect harmonious synchronicity.......with Cobham completely mesmerizing and totally locked into the groove baby....it was a thing of surpassing beauty..... and the thought occured that should Death take me now I would have no grounds to complain.....Sheer and utter bliss I shit you not! 9.95/10

I knew there was something I forgot to add but it didn't click until I played the 'Live in Leverkusen' cd that I bought at the gig and it is a very obvious Steeley Dan vibe and steel drums  a la Spirogyra

Ye Gods, what a gig!!! 8) 8)...I gotta do these kind of shows more often!...maybe cut back on the Daiquaries next time though...  ;D

I know Jazz fusion is not everyone's cup of tea but I reckon a lot of folk here are into 70's prog and or funk...which is not that far removed and I'm sure they would really appreciate the amazing musicianship too. Still grinning!....right back on topic...my neighbour asked me to feed his cat a couple of days ago ...not something I'd do voluntarily but he's a decent old bloke...used to play for Liverpool after the war until he lost his leg in an RTA...anyway a fox has got into the house through the catflap and marked his territory on all the carpets as well as frightened the cat off. We can' t find it anywhere. Not looking forward to having that conversation

ian it's not really an assumption, rather, it's based on reading and participating in other threads and meeting a fair few people down the years and talking with them. I don't see what you hope to gain by calling people you don't know hypocrites or how  you think you're qualified to make that judgement. I'm well aware that my review isn't knowledgable or detailed from a musical perspective as I'm not a musician or a journalist. All I tried to do was convey how much I enjoyed the evening. We might not always agree on everything, who does? ....but I like and respect the opinions and characters of the people who paid me a compliment and that means far more to me than
the comments of an obvious agent provocateur with an axe to grind.

'A Farewell To Kings'

Well, tnms is a very broad church, a factor which has kept the site going for 10 years during the fallow periods of Rush inactivity. Last time I looked there was nothing in the rules that stipulated you had to park your critical faculties or personal tastes at the door before entering.

Once again Ian this isn't the topic section to be discussing this sort of stuff!

Who called in the thought police then?

This sort of stuff Richard?

Its an open Rush fan forum, yes?

And yet here we find apparently dedicated Rush detractors trying to persuade us that some other musos are so perfect on the 'Upset Of The Day' thread (I take it that's what the Upset Of The Day' thread is for in your opinion judging from your lack of comment in that respect?) of a Rush fan site? Well its bound to mildly 'upset' some people surely (you know... Rush fans and that) and cause a little reaction perhaps?

So where else would you suggest to voice such 'upset' (I use the term lightly of course) Richard?

Anything Rush related is fair game on any thread of a Rush fan website surely, no?.

You'll be telling me next that I can't suggest Geddy Lee for England manager on the sports section next! ::)

Talk about taking things a little too seriously! :P (Hope your blister is feeling better today btw! ;D).

What is your problem!? If you look back on this place you find that this thread is generally in a serious vein, the more light-hearted stuff going in the annoyance thread, and I'm furious that I find myself having a slanging match with you about things that may or may not be connected with Rush (in the General Chat section) in a thread where a few days ago I posted about a relative getting cancer!

Ok Richard, I see your point now that you've explained your stance. No offence meant of course and this is maybe one of the dangers of starting threads like this one... unfortunately you're broadcasting very personal, sensitive and intimate information out on an open forum to complete strangers, literally to the world, most of whom, as harsh or uncaring as it seems, read such posts and then pretty much forget all about them pretty swiftly... as one might read something sad in a newspaper for instance... 'shake our heads at the tradegy' and then 'turn the page'. Certainly the case here and I'm sure for all involved in this particular thread hijack.

I can't help feeling that for such personal issues the use of the PM system might be better for sharing such intimate things and receiving condolances from people who you know on the site.

I sincerely hope things turn out for the better with your relative.

Wendy's 48 year old brother Keith had an accident at work this morning, and has badly damaged his thumb. They said if he'd have been closer to retirement age, they'd have probably amputated it, but have give him some painkillers and anti biotics, and will get the specialist to see him on monday.

Went to see Keith today, he only got out of hospital yesterday. He's had two operations, and the good news is that he won't have to have his thumb amputated. Picture below, but be warned, it's not for the squeamish.

A Briton and an Italian abducted by gunmen in Nigeria last year have died in a failed rescue attempt, UK Prime Minister David Cameron has announced.
He said it appeared Chris McManus - from north-west England - and Franco Lamolinara had been "murdered by their captors before they could be rescued".

Chris worked as a Quantity Surveyor for my current employers between 2007 and 2010. Although I joined the company after Chris had left I met him several times when I worked at Glovers. A very sad day. The office will be quiet tomorrow.

It's not that long since most parents would have had to bury at least one of their children.

Sorry to hear that Geo.

I'm off to pay my last respects to a very lovely lady this morning when I attend the funeral of Iris Alvey at 11am. When we came to live in Highley when i was just 5, the first house we lived in was next door to the Alvey family, and Iris and Ted made us very welcome, and we got to be friendly with all of their 9 children as well. I've always stayed in touch with Iris over the years, and used to take my mom up to visit her regularly. Sadly Iris passed away just over a week ago aged 88. RIP Iris, you'll be sadly missed  :'(.

My Dad is 81 and on his way back from a weekend in Glasgow to visit my brothers he had a heart attack on St. Pancras station. Staff and paramedics were great and within 20 minutes he was in Muamba's bed at the Heart Hospital. He's sedated and cooled and it's 50/50 at the moment but he is stable...... got to the bedside to be with my stepmum in 85 minutes but am home now, reassured by the outstanding staff. Cross your fingers for John Geoffrey Dahms... he deserves another summer!

Dad is still in ICU at the Heart Hospital. Before I left last night he was coming round and responding to mine and my step-mum's voices. Nothing more than eye-blinks and attempts at getting up as yet but he cannot breathe unaided and when he comes round he bites the tube so depriving himself of air. For this reason they are keeping him mildly sedated. Good news is that the surgeon thinks he has faculties enough to warrant the open heart surgery he needs to repair the arteries and aorta so hopefully he will get that surgery in the next forty-eight hours. Feeling totally helpless but happy that he is in THE BEST possible place....

My thought are also with Jon and his Dad.

Sorry to hear of that Reg. You sound philosophical about it but that's easy to read. Emotions are another thing. I have read the other post before posting here and some cynics might say it's too quick. I have lost my father this year and my girlfriend has lost her brother and i take the view that this life is for grabbibg while it's there. So you go for it and i wish you the very best with what i hope will be a new chapter.

Indeed - life is too short for what-ifs and maybes and shoulda-woulda-coulda.  Too many times in my life I have looked back and thought - if only I'd had the courage to say something.

As I said, it may come to nothing - and/or she may be put off by my current circumstances and she might not call.  That won't put me off trying again!

Not going into details, but, being dumped after 14 months.

No regrets.  Had some fantastic times.  Made a really good friend.  Great memories, but time to move on, heal, and make some new ones now.

ps. see simple pleasure of the day \o/

Sorry about that Reg, chin up mate.

I've been a little upset about jack Osborne's recent diagnosis.

I'm finding that I'm becoming a little more sensitive about people passing away and developing illnesses, etc.

Not long had a call to tell me that a work mate was murdered in Wolverhampton last night. Tom Kirwan was a strapping 23 year old Wolves fan, and a very popular member of the workforce who you could have a laugh with. I was only chatting to him at work on friday, and he was telling me that he was starting a football team up, and had just secured sponsorship from our company. Not sure of the details yet, but it appears that he was stabbed through the heart. My day has been well and truly ruined with this terrible news. RIP Tom, you will be sorely missed mate.

Yep, the feeling amongst the MS sufferers that Lou is in touch with (all over the world) is that it can only raise the profile of the disease. It's such a misunderstood illness - and why shouldn't it be as it affects every sufferer in different ways and to different degrees. Watching Lou very, very slowly decline is quite the hardest thing I have ever had to cope with in my life - and I'm not the one who is now in almost constant pain and as of today on a 91 tablets a week drug regime........

Goodness.  My heart goes out to Rob, Louise, Neil...everyone who has cause to post here.

It's painful reading this thread, but if ever I need to get my trivial little issues into perspective I know where to come.  For instance, my car conked out yesterday a mile from my destination of Headingley on my way back from a nice lunch in Otley and I had no choice but to abandon it.  Annoying and exasperating, yes, at the time it certainly was, obviously, but compared with the hardships we read on here it's really just a load of pitifully trivial bollocks when you take a step back, a minor inconvenience that can be remedied pretty quickly.  I count my blessings (so to speak).  :-\

Need to make a correction here - it was actually a Swedish House Mafia concert where the stabbings and drugs overdose occured (now 3 deaths).  in my defence it happened at the same venue over the same weekend.

Chris was our longest serving employee, he started in 1965 when he was just 15, and was a fine electrician who I shared some good times with when were both shop stewards on the union. He was 63. His dad was a great guy. Always full of beans, loved and respected by everyone who knew him, he was the announcer for Rushden & Diamonds FC and if you were a friend to one of his sons you practically became family in his eyes.

A boy in year 12 at my daughters school committed suicide yesterday. So tragic that these young people (or anyone for that matter) can't talk to anyone about what is troubling them. A waste of a young life and devasting consequences for those left behind.

My son has taken the decision to end his relationship with his girlfriend of 3 years. She is a beautiful, caring, sensitive but very fragile young woman. I honestly thought they'd be together for good but I believe it was the right decision to take, however hard. Both families are pretty devastated....it feels like there's been a death in the family. We will really miss her I'm also more than a little concerned for her health and wellbeing  :'(  :-\

Not being a parent, I don't know what year 12 is. I'm used to primary/secondary rather than this Americanised stuff  - I presume year 12 is a final secondary year student?

That's very sad for the family. A boy I grew up with who I was friendly enough to have been to his house on more than a few occasions killed himself at age 11 along with his 17 year old brother. Just bizarre, really.

Secondary school starts at year 7, so year 12 is first year of 6th form in "old money"

Now my eldest daughter has told me her boyfriend of 2 years has told her he's not happy and wants to end their relationship.....gutted for her, she tried hard to make it  work but he has done her a massive favour as he's far too insecure, shallow, cowardly, selfish, unreliable and immature for her...there will be tears in the coming weeks but she's better off.

It's been a heavy thread recently for sure. So much pain. Was upset today to see the photo on page 5 of the Daily Mail. Father hugging his son in a coma who didn't wear a helmet when cycling as he didn't want to spoil his hair. Sounds crazy but that's 16 year olds. If he recovers almost certain to be brain damaged. Father wants the photo out as a warning to other parents.

Sorry to pick a fight on this thread of all threads but that is (probably) just not true. a cycle helmet wont make any difference in  anything more that a low speed crash.
And yes I do wear a helmet when I cycle and it is a tragic waste of a young life.

You're not picking a fight at all by giving an honest opinion. I don't assume you would. Thanks for your feedback.  It's clear in certain cases it'll never make a difference and i do wear mine. I think the message here is better with it than not so use it anyway should it make a difference. Too many don't bother. I believe a vehicle was involved in this case and i really didn't get a chance to read the stats of speeds and impact etc. if they were given.  It was the photo that was the source of my upset today. It is tragic.

I remember being staggered (for want of a better term..sorry!) in the 90's that a war of the scale of Yugoslavia could happen in a modern Europe in that day. It beggars belief this is so close too ..or anywhere for that matter. When I was knee high to a grasshopper 'Space 1999' and '2001 a space odyssey' told me how it was all going to be when the future came. It's 2013 and we're still throwing bricks and bottles here in Northern Ireland on a bad day. Sarin gas if it was used in Syria? It seems it was from evidence. Surely there has to be intervention now? Doesn't there? It's horrific.

Its a tough one, there's no doubt about that....but who to support ? A radical Muslim group with reported Al Qaeda links or a despotic incumbent with an alleged fondness for chemical / biological weapons (we've been here before).... :-\

Just come back from shopping at Sainsburys at Kidderminster. The woman on the cheeckout is a very nice girl with a Liverpudlian accent, who we haven't seen in there for a while. It brought a lump to our throats when she told us that she'd been off for a while as her 16 year old daughter had passed away. Diagnosed and dead within 4 weeks with cancer. Heartbreaking  :'(.

Oh man! I don't know what seriously damaged means in this context but i know of people gone through this. Roughy speaking single surgery is successful in about 80% of cases rising to 90% after secondary surgery though it can take a few months. Those are good odds...great odds... but won't stop the worry i know. I'd been wondering if you'd be updating this so thanks for sharing and my continued best wishes.

Just editing to say i'm sure the doctor has given you the lowdown on chances so don't want to mislead you either as they'll know the extent of the damage. I really hope they have given you cause to be positive.

There needs to be a "Medium Upset of the Day" thread.
Or a "Sims says it's not that serious really" thread.

Not quite sure about this though. Brave or stupid/exploitative?We've all seen people go through this and is it good to be shown it/reminded of it?

I didn't find it exploitative - nice that they found each other before she was diagnosed.

Not sure as if it should be a mild upset as it was expected, but one of my uncles - last of my mother's siblings - died this morning.
His wife's was admitted to hospital yesterday and it doesn't look good for her and one of my second cousins isn't expected to last much longer - Big C.

Going to be a nice run up to Christmas...

Aye. It's a terrible thing. All this doom and gloom is doing my old mother no good. We went out for lunch with the old folk yesterday and my mum ate next to nothing. It doesn't help that it'll soon be three since my sister died.

On the bright side, my old father isn't going to die of the prostate cancer he was diagnosed with ten years back.

Was just thinking too Nick. As it's your Uncle and now his wife is really badly that'll be both parents, obviously, to any children they may have. I'm not suggesting your Aunt won't pull through but if the worst.. at least I had 11 years between mine. My late mother lost her parents within 14 weeks of each other and i remember the devestation it did for her. Awful news this could be a mother and father to someone if they're parents. I wish you all the best and hope your Mother too can find some strength having already lost a child.

My very best wishes to you all.

I can't help but notice though you'll still find a bright side though it was born out of bad news originally. That's the spirit. Good man!

Seeing my ex in hospital after her op on Weds. All went well though (not quite as invasive as feared) and she's a lot better than we had hoped for this soon after. Initial forecast of 10 days in there now down to maybe a week. One of the kids Ok with it all; one not.  Radio therapy and all that to come, but it looks like the bastard disease has not spread.

Thanks very much everyone, it really does mean a lot. Just feeling very numb today cause I've spent most of it keeping it together for my mum who's mourning the loss of her brother. Initial reports we're getting from the family members who found him are that something was going very wrong financially with a new business he was starting up and something tipped him over the edge and he saw no other way out. Personally at the minute I'm just feeling disappointed that my uncle felt he couldn't talk to anyone about what he was going through, but ultimately I hope he's got the peace he needed.

Very sorry to hear this Mr Star.
My condolences to you and yours.

Phone call at eight o'clock today - not that I heard it - from my dad to say he couldn't get my mum to wake up and could we come over, yes father, but call a bloody ambulance! We got there to find the paramedic was there and mother was awake, but not in a good way. We also found she'd had on at least for occasions in the last couple of weeks fallen unconscious. Now, she does had trouble swallowing and has gone stick thin over the last few months but refused to see a doctor.
The paramedic decided that Hospital was the best place for her, and that's where I've now been most of the day. Turns out she has pneumonia, but thankfully not too badly.
She's come round now, but all she was worried about was had all the cakes she'd baked for her Church Christmas Fair got there. They had, but not before the Paramedic had scoffed half of them...
We were all supposed to be going to Mass today as it was being said for the fifth anniversary of my sister's death. I hope we don't get another round the same time. Mother is being seen tomorrow by the Speech and Language therapist to see if anything can be done about her swallowing problems - no jokes - ironically a Speech Therapist is what my sister was trained in.

These bloody old folk though, they're a worry.

Hope things work out for the best, Mr Sims.

Good health to your respective mums.
Echo those sentiments.
Yes, things do start to get difficult as time goes on (most of us are at that age). I've only got mum left now and will be at hospital with her tomorrow and again on Wednesday (just been diagnosed with Myeloma, a blood cancer).
It is indeed a worry.
She's not too bad though, just polished off a bloody great Sunday roast!

Wish my mother would polish off a bloody great Sunday roast, but then she doesn't eat meat...
Just been back to see her and she's saying things like "look at that poor old woman over there, mind she's younger than me..." she's also moaning about being hungry and she's on nil-by-mouth until she's been properly assessed over her swallowing difficulties.

Looks like we'll end up having to have Xmas over at our house this year. Arse. can't afford the sort of wines and whisky my old dad drinks...

Mine was that there was a major RTA outside my house last night that involved the emergency services closing the road and surrounding area for 10 hours.. learnt this morning that a 19 year old girl who was a passenger was killed and the driver (young lad) has minor injuries when his car hit a tree.... it was carnage out there tbh

After two and a half weeks of tests to see what's a matter with my mother they've all come back negative.
The conclusion that's been drawn is that she's got Motor Neurone Disease. :(
Not looking likely that she'll be out for Christmas, although they're trying to get her back to Chesterfield. Her blood oxygen levels are low and she's got a lung infection, so she needs an oxygen mask - which will bring on her claustrophobia. She's going to have to be fed by tube once a month, which will have to be done at the Hallamshire.
Apart from that things are fine.

Thanks Zooners.
After Mrs S saw her yesterday, she was full of foreboding - she didn't get her shopping done either - apparently Mum's blood oxygen levels were down at 50% on Friday night - catastrophically low said a Doctor - so she was on a Darth vader style Oxygen mask which she didn't like one bit. She was thrashing around and seeing visions.
Today, whilst she doesn't look good, her blood oxygen is at 86% and she just has small oxygen tubes up her nose. She ate her porridge for breakfast and had just about eaten her lunch when we got there.
If they can shift her lung infection whilst she won't be out of the woods, there may be a bit of light at the end of the tunnel - to mix a few metaphors.
She couldn't remember a thing about yesterday, so she doesn't know she nearly broke Mrs S's hand squeezing it when they went for a chest X-ray.

Well, the bit of light is extinguished now :(

My dad phoned yesterday to say that the Doctors wanted to come in on Wednesday to discuss resuscitation should it arise and that he didn't think my mum would leave the Hospital alive.

This morning at 3:30 we got a call to say she was seriously ill and could we please come in. She'd gone by the time we got there at 4. I couldn't bring myself to go and see her. I just want to remember how we left her on Sunday, when she smiled and waved to us. Although that breaks me up now.
It was definitely MND she had, thinking back it's been pretty obvious, that old 20-20 hindsight, but better that we only knew of it over the past week, rather than 5 years.

Fifty Two years of pent up emotions are coming out now. It's a good job I've got Mrs S.

Thanks again all. I appreciate it. I'm glad we didn't get the MND diagnosis until a few days ago. If she'd been diagnosed when she first started to deteriorate, it wouldn't have been long after my sister's five year battle with Ovarian cancer, that would have meant 10 years of watching people ebb away. I just treasure that last wave and smile on Sunday, thinking about it simultaneously makes me smile and blub like a baby.

On a lighter note, we found out today that the old people mum and dad used to take shopping on a Friday were no older than what they are :0

I just hope mum's funeral isn't the first of many to come, one of my cousins, who grew up as if she were mum's younger sister, is seriously ill and probably won't be able to travel. Two aunties are in a bad way and one of my uncles didn't sound too good when he phoned last week. Don't know how long my old dad will last, but I've told him to live another year as we bought him a diary from Christmas and I don't want any days wasting...

I don't envy you. It's eighteen months on now, it does get better, but it's a slow process. We never got the chance to say don't revive her. They did. For about a minute...
Would have been mum's 81st birthday today.

Thanks Nick. I guess it's one of those things you put at the back of your mind and don't want to think about but now that it's happening I'll just have to deal with it the best I can. Mum turned 84 in June and still had a few years in her but the local doctor delayed sending her for tests when she started to feel ill last December! And then in hospital she got an infection and just went down hill. Going to visit her tomorrow but it's tough seeing her in the condition she's in.

Thanks for that. At least dad, one of my sisters and her daughter were with her when she passed. We knew she hadn't long left and when I didn't hear from them by 11pm I had the feeling they were staying with her till the end. Maybe it will hit me more over the next few weeks but we have had great support from relatives and neighbors.

Sad news guys, my thoughts are with you.
Having lost most of my family (parents/sister) and inlaws in the not too distant past, you will get through it and be stronger as a result... take care, hug your loved ones and put yourself first now and then.

Hit by a double whammy. Last week I lost one of my cousins to cancer with her funeral being this Friday, just got a call from my sister that one of my uncle's has suffered another bleed on his brain and is not likely to make it through the night :(

My uncle's funeral today. A lot tougher than I thought it was going to be, my sister nearly collapsed crying on the way out. I learnt in his eulogy that the condition he had - AVM - was something he was born with and fully developed when he was 9 years old, and could have started a bleed at any given moment in his life, so the fact he got another 60 years out of it - having a family and living an incredibly full life, was one of unbelievable luck that I'll be forever thankful for. RIP Uncle Keith x

Disappointed, sure - but it must be something serious for him to cancel this far in advance - and in those circumstances, a show pales into insignificance...

I had front row centre as well...

Agreed -

Hope things work out for him/his family. Clearly it's something very serious.

Amazon good as gold on the refunds though.

The stresses of being a parent.  I know every parent goes through it...but feck, this weeks been tough/an eye opener...
Hang in there. What ever they are going through they will need you to be strong and listen and clear up the mess.
All the best to you all.

Doesn't make it any easier to deal with....I'm sure that Mrs Raza has been able to provide advice etc, but in case you need a "different pair of ears" Mrs Bez is a EYFS teacher...

Hope things work out, Hass, my best wishes to you all.

Had a bit of an upsetting episode myself over the weekend with my nearly-2-year-old, who from somewhere (I have my strong suspicions) has inadvertently picked up an inappropriate phrase from somewhere or someone.  Obviously it's pure mimicry, as they do at that age, but it's still upsetting, infuriating and embarrassing for me, and I stressed to her she should stop saying it which she seems to have taken on board.  And, without accusing anyone, people have been warned to be careful...  ::)

When our eldest was very young (so many years ago) he was sitting in a Sainsbury's shopping trolley as Mrs Bez pushed him around the shop....He looked up from the baguette that he was happily tucking into and pointed at a large woman and loudly shouted...."mummy, that lady is very fat"

When I was a youngster, about three or four, I couldn't pronounce 'tr' so 'Trains' became 'Fains'. Once on a 'Fain we were running parallel to the road and I pointed out all the 'fecks'.. look Mummy there's a feck and another feck... lots of fecks!!!

Mother in Law was hospitalised last night with a severe water infection - she was Pissing Blood according to Mrs S, not that she used those words - with Mrs S being at the Hospital 'til quarter to four this morning.
A lot of it's down to her supposed "carers" not being caring enough to make sure she drinks what they give her.

Still, Mrs S says she appears to be picking up now.

Good to hear of an improvement, Mr Sims.

Would that I could report good news of my own; I’ve been having to visit my mum in the dementia ward recently...some days it’s okay, some days it’s soul-crushing.  She’s in good hands though and I don’t know where the staff get their fortitude from.  I couldn’t do their job.  :-\

I couldn't do it either.
As long as she's being well looked after, that's the main thing :)

Well, the MiL came out of Hospital today, but last night at twenty to eleven the phone rang; it was  the neighbour of Mrs S's 90 year old auntie to say she'd had a fall.
Mrs S went over to find a scene like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, blood everywhere, the neighbour's were on the phone for an ambulance and being told it would be four hours before one could come. Mrs S persuaded them otherwise. But after being at the Hospital 'til four on Sunday morning, she was there 'til half five this morning.
One comes out, one goes in.

Lost my old schoolmate today. Went to all Rush gigs with him since Signals, before he died he gave me a NP drumming hat he used to cover his hair loss and a “feck Brexit” T shirt. Through the death of his sister and a Bob Harris connection we got to meet Alex and Geddy on the last tour. Afterimage tonight...
