IAAF seem in a bit of a mess over this sickness bug - banning Isaac Makwala from entering the stadium to compete in in the 400m last night. Whatever the reasons the lines of communication seem pretty poor. Conspiracy theorists might suggest it was a move to protect the IAAF Golden Boy Van Niekerk as Makwala was considered his main rival in the 400m which he duly picked up a gold for at a canter..... :-\
As other athletes have pointed out in Delhi 2010 half the athletes had a bug but nobody stopped them racing.

I wonder if Mo Farah would have been treated the same?

Good to see they let Makwala run the 200m qualifier on his own last night and he got through the semi later in the evening too.

Good point - can't imagine the same situation confronting Farah or Bolt for that matter. The IAAF would find every excuse/reason in the book why it was OK for them - different bug etc.....

So the Somali alleged drugs cheat only got a Silver. BUT, the men's 4 x 100 relay team took Gold in the 3rd fastest time EVAH!!!!
Now that's an outcome worth more than ANY result in the so-called Premier League of English Soccerball, a pure sporting result, not that rat-tabs Lineaker would ever think of it in those terms as he eulogises over a drab nil-nil draw between two teams of overpaid foreign mercenaries.

Excellent performance by the GB 4x 100 men's relay team. I haven't watched much but me and the missus both leapt to our feet and roared them home tonight - great stuff!

6 medals - in a truly global event - and 5 fourth places seems a fairly decent return from a developing team to me....

The relays saved the day (and the funding) with four medals, don't see too many individuals making the winners rostrum once Farah retires from the track though. Perhaps some of the fourths might get a medal?

Wonder why the BBC weren't showing the action live like Eurosport?
