Another Tom Sawyer in cinema reference
« on: December 07, 2017, 20:16:22 PM »
Tom Sawyer is featured very prominently in the trailer I saw tonight for 'Ready Player One' which looks pretty good. I've got the e-book but haven't read it yet.

I imagine that the trailer is up on that interwebby thing if you want to check it out.
Standing in the shadows, hiding from the light
Reach out in the darkness, and hold on for your life
All the fear of the future, all the emptiness inside
When the moment of truth arrives, hey, you can run but you can't hide

The book has a whole chapter devoted to Rush; 2112 in particular ;)

The book is crammed with cultural references like that; music, 80's movies, old video games, Dungeons & Dragons - it was the best book I'd read in years. Sadly, the trailer makes the movie look like a car-crash, but I hope to proven wrong - if anyone can do it, Spielberg can!

And Subdivisions has an important link in the story towards the end of the book.

I started it last night, and I'm enjoying it so far. Very easy to read. The blurb on the front has a quote from USA Today: "Enchanting. WILLY WONKA meets THE MATRIX."
Standing in the shadows, hiding from the light
Reach out in the darkness, and hold on for your life
All the fear of the future, all the emptiness inside
When the moment of truth arrives, hey, you can run but you can't hide

I enjoyed that so much that I've just bought Cline's second book:  Armada

Yeah, I read Armada straight after Ready Player One; both great fun.

Jonners - definitely give it a go.
