A wee dram...
« on: November 19, 2004, 04:18:56 AM »
As requested a thread for the tasting of whiskey's or scotch which ever your prefer ;)

Personally I love the 15 year old Macalllan we have and which the stalkers got a taste of,  its such a beautiful very rounded whiskey that has such a mellow amber taste...lovely ;)

Anyway before I start Dods wanted to do his bit so we'll let him go first! ;)

well by the time dods gets here this would of been left on its wholesome!!

Right...

So far I've been drinking Bushmills Irish Whisky (thanks Jonno and Bob) I've never had Irish whiskey before and this is fantastic. Very smooth and glides onto your tongue like butter.

Also 15 year old MacCallan (59.7% alc) it was suggested to me to water it down. I nearly died of shock! As Davey Arnot showed me, 1 cube of ice!! Thats it!!

I'm looking at Islay and Jura Malts for christmas purchases so any recommendations would be fantastic :)

Islay:
Lagavulin, double matured, hands down the peatiest one of the lot
Regular Lagavulin
Laphroaigh
Port Ellen

These are the top Islay ones, as far as I am concerned.

My favourite malt is from Islay and its BUNNAHABHAIN.

It is soft and mellow with just a hint of peat.  This I have read is because it is distilled from clear spring water trapped high in the mountains which filters through the ancient sandstone rocks.

Bob, I too stick an ice cube in my malt, and I believe that this or a dash of spring water is the 'correct' way as it helps to release the flavours.

Well, I am certainly no expert, but Lagavulin and Laphroaigh
are beautiful whiskies.

Best 'bog standard' I've had is Highland Park.

Highland Park is definately a very nice one indeed.

If you like the Islay, Jura taste, you could try Springbank from Campbeltown.

Another suggestion:
Get the Michael Jackson books on malt whisky as well, certainly the Malt Whisky Companion is a great help.

Err, remember that I'm Dutch, Ashley. ;D

You are right about Big Hank, he has been practising holding his liquor for quite some time now (I think it even started before he went stalking).
