T2: Trainspotting

I was expecting an element of nostalgia, but it actually smothers the film and the modern plot line feels like an afterthought.

It's okay and has its moments but was never going to touch the deservedly iconic original.

The music is pretty good as well....

Get Out

Quite good.  Quite original and astute.  Still mulling over its themes the day after and there's an interesting alternate ending in the extras.  Recommended.

two more episodes this week. This may be the best war documentary series I've seen...

The mad helicopter crewman at the beginning of one of this week's episodes was instant proof of PTSD...

Ex Machina

Very good, especially technically.  Unsurprisingly won the 2015 Oscar for Best Visual Effects - they are "seamless" rather than "spectacular".

Watched The Revenant last night as Maria was out - blimey - very brutal film - quite a tough watch but compelling at the same time - a great piece of filmaking but not exactly an enjoyable watch. Plot is a bit thin and totally unbelievable but still what Hollywood films aren't these days?
Some of the camera work really makes you feel you're in the action - certainly not for the feint hearted - or family viewing - but worth a watch if you get the chance.

Long lost family. Love watching this programme, and not ashamed to say that it brings a tear to my eye at times.

David Lynch: The Art Life

Excellent, beautifully done documentary where the maestro himself talks about his formative years and early career up to around the making of feature debut Eraserhead.

Captures the essence of the man and his creative genius wonderfully, and is essential stuff for fans like me, so I'm going to buy it and file along with the rest of my Lynch collection - it's a worthy addition.

Hopefully there's a follow-up that delves into the main body of his subsequent film and TV work.

Icarus on netflix. The doc starts up with an amateur cyclist looking to see how his performance changes through doping. Then the whole prog shifts dramatically as the main expert gets caught up in the drama that led to many Russian athletes being banned from the Rio Olympics. Well worth a watch
